Throwing out ideas for the site.
I dont know if everyone would be willing to do this or not. But i would pitch in and help pay for a chat box and some kind of mp3 playlist on here or some sort of thing to where we could listin to music on here. Anyone else intrested? Just throwing ideas out there.

Very interested, but I think they had already tried this and it didn't work out......

I am a very active member at 6crew.com. Site for the mazda6. We have a chatbox and its a lot of fun. The only cost could potentially be slightly bumped up bandwith, not sure is frf's server has limits.

A live chat has been discussed. It cost I think 130 dollars. Tom made a thread where you could donate but I dont think anyone did. That was also after they complained about not having a chat.
EDIT HERE IT IS

We had a chatbox on this forum for a while, but it didn't work out. For the past few weeks of it's existence the only use it got was from brand new users asking technical questions. Thus, no one was really using it to chat, and new users were not coming back to the forum because no one answered their questions (in the chat).
And as STL said, I've yet to find a live chat program that can be fully integrated into this forum for free. I created a thread to see if anyone would be willing to pitch in for a chat room and there wasn't much interest. Thus, we have what we have.

Good point. Over at 6crew.com we disable the chatbox for users until they have x# of posts. 100 or so I believe. we've had it since day 1 so I can't say if it has effected posts at all. No biggy though, just throwing my opinion out. I'm new here so I can't say I know how it works on frf. Thanks for the info.

My opinion is based on when R-F had a chat box. No moderation, anything can be and would be said, no set rules for the chat box, all 'posts' were saved and could be reviewed, etc. It's a headache for staffers.

You know, mIRC is a good place to chat AND download skin movies!
Haven't used it in ages... Just an idea, though!

This is very true. I may be biased, however, I feel that FRF has a very different feel and has a far more pleasant atmosphere. I'm hoping that the civilized atmosphere would carry over into the chats. Although our chat was inactive for the most part I never saw any hostility or abuse of it.

mIRC is the program, IRC is the chat room. Our internet provider prohibits IRC servers due to their bad reputation, and to the best of my knowledge an IRC chat room can not be integrated with the forum.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
