If I may weigh in on this matter...

I haven't been here long enough to warrant a real opinion at this point. I'm part of many different forums. Some I visit more than others. But I started this "forum life" at the Atari forums. In their community chat where most of the long time members often discussed politics and other issues. Fights were minimal and things seemed to be going very well. Until the forum declared that discussing politics was to be banned. This ticked off lots of the older more "mature" members and most left to fan sponsored spin off sites. Now Atari has closed some of its older sections because the members that were once there packed up and left.

Now I know this is a far cry to what is happening here, another forum of I'm a part of feed off that mass immigration from Atari and created a "Thoughtful Discussions" board.

I'm not saying that either party is correct, but a Thoughtful Discussions board might be a nice compromise.

There is no political section to close. Nobody is going to leave FRF for closing a section that doesn't exist. But I can assure you that ENCOURAGING additional political discussion by making a section dedicated to it WILL drive off members. Not having that rampant bullshit spewed here is part of what makes this place better than others.

It will be what it will be. Its not like these kinds of threads are banned here, so everyone that wants to talk politics can, with or without a section. And even if there was a political section here I personally would avoid it if I didn't want to discuss it. I wouldn't leave entirely.

That isn't how it works. When you make a section for it, it invites and encourages it. The very few political threads we have now would multiply exponentially. I'm not making this up, I have just a little bit of experience in the matter and how out of control and damaging it is. It is a terrible idea and will ruin the place. Guaranteed. And frankly, the discussion is moot because Tom has already ruled on the matter several times.

Yep even the moderators got too involved with it. Eventually alot of members said audios to that website because alot of people would stalk each other in other sections. After reading the posts and seeing alot of my friends leaving and the ones that had already left hasn't been on there in months, I promptly left and came here. There's no one over there at R-F that wouldn't chase someone around in threads including the moderators. What I wonder is how they stay up and running. A political section would be a disaster and it warm do more harm than good to the website as a whole. Plus I'm sure Tom is tired of ruling on this subject. He's boss and pretty much what he says goes. This case is closed in my book.
