Default Add a "Thank Feature"

Of course this is an Internet Forum and there are alot of active people up here. I have noticed on a few other forums that they have a "Thank" button on the bottom of a post next to the "Quote" buttons and all like so:

I think this would be a nice addition to the forum. There are alot of useless posts (like the X2 posts...i do them too lol) and alot of people with high post counts. But how much of that is actual useful info?

I think by adding the button,a user can hit a thank button if they are helped or really appreciate a post or sale or something. "Thanks" would be kept track each user's profile page.

Let me know what ya think Tom!

A thanks button is not going to substitute for "x2" posts and the likes as saying "thanks" and "I agree" are two different things. Plus, a lot of users have confusions using the forum now so I doubt the thanks button will suddenly stop people from thanking someone.

Additionally, seeing a list of all the users who have thanked a post just adds more cluster, and I am not a fan of cluster.

The point is not so much stopping useless posts because like I said I do them all the time too and sometimes a "X2" helps you feel better about a decision.

The point is it helps people recognize those that make good points in help threads and what not. but if you dont want one, thats ok, just suggesting

I dont think it would be a list of users showing they thanked you, it would be a spot on your profile that says something like "Number of Thanked Posts: ###"

I understand what you're saying but I am not a fan of extra cluster by having a list of "users who thanked this post" under posts.

This thread is a prime example of what I'm talking about. Every single post in this thread would get thanked. Those who agree with you would thank your post, everyone doing "x2" would get thanked for the lolz, you (jokingly) calling people a-holes would get thanked for the lolz, anyone who agreed with me would thank my post, then everyone doing the "x2" on my post would get thanked.... etc. etc.

Personally I think it's nice to see some users who come into threads and post something like "Thanks for posting that, it fixed my problem" as it is more meaningful (EG: required thought/effort) than simply hitting a button. And if that thank button existed that user may feel it's appropriate to hit thanks instead of actually writing thanks. Basically, I don't want to discourage users from writing thanks.

If it doesn't actually do anything besides add to a statistic then what's the point?

Either way I've never seen a thank you modification that doesn't show a list on all the thanked posts...

EDIT: I kind of get what your point is, but it wouldn't play out like you intend as basically everyone will be getting thanked for anything as I pointed out regarding this thread. So it's not as if the number of thanked posts would really represent anything besides how well that user is liked within the community.
