Make stickies stick out more
I discussed this with Myke after seeing so many theads asking about maximum tire size for certain trucks when we have a sticky about it
I know, new members might not know what a sticky is, but i figure most DO know what section to post under and they just dont see the stickies "at the top of the page". SOOOOOOOO, I came up with the idea of making stickies stick out a little more. How about changing the color of text in the forum list to like bright ass gold or something and bolded letters. ( i bet that bright ass gold got your Attention...huh).
just some food for thought, I dont even know if it can be done on the forum software.
Also, another suggestion is to put a copy of all the threads of interest or the actual " beginner threads of interest" into the " Introduce Yourself" topic. also, I think it might help site contributions if the "How to become a site contributor" was placed into the "Introduce Yourself " topic as well.
So for a cliffnotes version of above:
1) Make Sticky Titles Gold in text to stick out more
2) move or copy the following threads into the "Introduce Yourself" topic (copy would probably be best):
- http://www.fordrangerforum.com/site-...kers-here.html
- http://www.fordrangerforum.com/site-...ntributor.html
- http://www.fordrangerforum.com/how-t...ucket-com.html
I think this will make the site run more efficiently as far as newcomers go. Its getting real old seeing the same ol threads pop up. And I know Tom doesn't ask for the money for the site, it was all on our suggestion for the contributions and stickers, but the site does cost and so do stickers. I think moving those threads will really help in that area. Its just a matter of ad placement...lol

Re: Make stickies stick out more
good idea! You know my view on what I think of people who keep asking about tire size without first checking the "sticky's"

Scott --
one thing you may not have considered: not everybody uses the default "dark" theme on the board. your bright ass yellow, aka gold does not stand out very well under the "light" theme.

X2, Maybe you could include a Tips and tricks kind of email when new members sign up along with the welcome email? I don't know if that will work just an idea...

Re: Make stickies stick out more
I think its a great idea. It would really cut down on the amount of newbie clutter and mods and members alike having to redirect them to the appropriate thread/section.

this is true, forgot about that! Well if we can use a color that stands out on both layouts, it would help. That also brings up another point Turbo, I wonder, we need a sticky telling new members they have the option of two different layouts
I guess BRIGHT ASS RED will work for both...lol

I like this idea as well, but if how many of us actually read those emails...lol. I know when i sign up for something new and I get that "confirmation email", i just open the email to find the link to finish signing up. It may work better as a PM on FRF though because they will get tired of seeing YOUR NOTIFICATIONS: 1 in the top right corner

I added a border to separate sticky threads from other threads in an attempt to make the sticky threads stand out more but I like your idea. I'll see what I can do, but as Turbo said, yellow on the dark theme doesn't really work so trial and error shall ensue.

I don't think I'll add the contribution & sticker threads to the introduce yourself forum as I don't want to dilute the other sticky threads.
One thing to note is that not everyone reads the sticky threads, I have my thread "Read Before Posting (No really, read this)" stickied in the introduction forum and it has less than 1,000 views.

New users get a welcome PM, which you should have received, that explains some of the basic forum info. Users with zero posts also have a banner on the top that links them to this thread: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/site-...ger-forum.html
I still get a ton of messages sent to me where it's obvious the user hasn't read anything.

Not sure if a sticky telling them about two colors is needed. Perhaps adding that information to the welcome PM & in the beginners thread would be beneficial though.
The red does indeed look good... now if only I could figure out how to change the thread title color...
