Default Misinformation

Tons of Ranger owners turn to FRF for guidance in relation to the modification and maintenance of these trucks every single day, whether it be our members, or traffic from google. This site has tons of valuable information from a variety of members who know their stuff, but since I've joined and been active on here, I can't help but get slightly annoyed when I see somebody posting information that is either completely false, inacurate, or based solely on opinion (formed by embracing the opinions of others, without any actual experience).

For most of us familiar with our trucks (and the members on FRF) it's easy to shrug it all off, but for those who might not necessarily know any better, this can be a pretty big problem. I know it's impossible to police the forums and deal with all the misinformation, but it would be nice to see less blatantly wrong statements and advice based on "having heard good things". Half the time, people reply to posts without even reading the whole question being asked.

This isn't directed at anybody in particular, I just think it would be valuable for FRF to be a source of accurate information, and not a hub of misinformation and bullshit flooding otherwise valid threads full of useful information.

I'll be the first to apologize for thinking I might know something about my truck that was inaccurate , from now on I will keep my opinion to myself if there is a shadow of a doubt in my thinking and likewise to those of you that try to correct me please don't correct me unless you are 100% correct in your guidance. This is totally unacceptable ...

I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic. Obviously people can make mistakes, I'm not talking about that... I'm referring to those who love to give advice and provide information who have no idea what they're saying but feel the need to post anyway.

It's a social community - everyone has unique opinions and/or suggestions.

It's an exchange of information.

Sure, some people will have more information about certain aspects. That's normal.

Advice or recommendations cant really be "wrong" - but there can be "better" ones.

It's really up to each person to weight the advice given....everyone is human and allowed opinions. Sure, they might not all be based on 'equal' experiences - but being that its an opinion or experience (even 2nd hand) - who's to say its not valid on it's face value alone? It's what that person has been exposed to.

Factual information is a different issue though. If you find someone that has posted inaccurate factual information - it should be rather easy to correct that by posting the true facts with sources. Simple, done deal.

Long story short - it's the internet. Enjoy your stay.

Misinformation sucks. You do need to understand that this forum isn't your only source for info. There many other Ranger and Ford related sites to choose from. I always like search multiple sources when looking for info. If I find the same info on multiple sites, then I Usually trust it.

Fair enough. I'm no stranger to the internet or forums, I just think some people should refrain from posting when they have the desire to write things that are downright wrong or that they don't know anything about.

I guess that's all that needs to be said about this.

I can only imagine how many people have read these forums and bought a new 4 banger Ranger because so many claim 29-34 mpg on the fuel economy threads. Then they get the cold hard truth.......no way a Ranger 2.3/5 spd is going to hit 30 mpg or even close.
Like what was posted earlier........just because it was posted on an internet does not mean it's true.
4.0 4x4 Rangers getting 20-24 mpg is even funnier.

Speaking of misinformation heres the DUAL PLUG MOD thread.

How To: Dual ignition Plug mod (Dual plug 2.3/2.5L only)

Can someone delete this thread, the only factual information is the wiring diagrams i posted showing that booth plugs already fire at the same. Funny how ford thought of it first.
