Default Problems with my 6 CD Changer

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge and have the 6 CD changer. Right now it's full. When I try to listen to CD's it gives me an CD Error. When I try to eject it says CD error. I'm pretty sure it's because there is a burned CD in there.

My question is...do I have to take it in to the shop(my warranty is out) or can I fix it myself. I'm leaving Friday morning and going on a 4 hour trip for the weekend. I would like to get this done before I go.

Thanks in advance

Does it work with a regular CD in there

I think it will only play WMA and MP3 files maybe you have it burnt wrong

STL, I think what Ben6485 is saying: he has a CD in the changer that won't play and he cannot eject.
The only reason I can think of for this came as a bulletin a year after I got my truck, by then I had already learned not to put a label on home burned CD's. I don't know if they fixed that problem or not.
I have read elsewhere about these changers removing parts of homemade labels and creating problems.
Radio/CD changers are not my bag, if they don't play get it fixed or replace it.
There has to be someone here who knows how to fix it, or at least get him headed in the right direction.

Ray

Well, i have the same 03 ranger edge with a 6 cd changer. Mine did the same things. I had both regular cds and burned without labels cds and it chokes on every one of them! Its not a matter of what kind of cd or whats on it, the 6 cd changers in the 2001 to 2003 timeframe are crap. Good for the first couple of years and then do that cd error more and more.

I used to be able to turn the truck off and restart it after the error and it would work fine. Other times it would take days for it to come out of PMS and spit the damn thing out. Its a problem that once it starts it will only get worse.

There is one way to fix it though... get a new stereo! Thats what I did. Im saving up for the double deck size touch screen so I just got a $100 sony xpliod for now. The cd changer is junk after that so after you replace it just take it apart and get the cds out.

If any of you guys think that my whole rant is total bs, youre out of luck. Ford has had 2 problems over the years. Bad cd changers and trannys in certain vehicles that cant handle the power that the engine its attached to is making.

My advice is to just replace the whole head unit. Get more power output and get 6x8 speakers to go with it!

The changer in my '04 worked flawlessly. It's not uncommon to have problems with it, though.

Where are you located? If you are somewhat close to me, I have one that works flawlessly out of an '05. Yours for the taking.

As far as getting your cd back, you can take it apart and get the CD out. They usually don't have problems with burned cds, but as a rule, you don't want to put cds with homemade labels on them into a car stereo. And the factory 6-disk just ain't work paying to have fixed, they are too easy to find, heck hit up your local junk yard, and get one for less than the cost of repair.

I'm in Plano, Tx

Thanks for the quick responses

All my Cd's are stuck in there...even the bought cds. I don't put labels on any of my burned ones either. Theres no chance that it will fix itself over time and the burner will spit out the cds and everything will be fine? The one thing that's been different is that it's been raining ALOT over the past say, week and a half...maybe there was some condensation in the changer and after it dries up in there it will work. I dunno. I just got laid off so I can't justify spending money on something like a cd player

Come get it, it's yours free. You just have to let me get my cds out of it first.

NP, I'm close and have a few things around, and am pretty handy with a wrench, so if you need anything, let me know.

What radio did you get exactly? Is it one that a changer can be connected to?

I don't think I can use it with a changer, but it's not too big a deal
