Re: HELP! Spark plug broken into head

Not that it matters this late, but it is little mentioned that the Chevy Vega has as bad or worse a record for fiery collisions as the often mentioned Pinto. They, GM, just got away with pointing...

Re: HELP! Spark plug broken into head

The engine will run if the drivers side plugs are all disconnected from what I have learned. I don't know if the remaining portion will blow out or not. My take is it will likely stay. If it does...

Re: Very low idles after turning AC off

Given that the IAC is 'pulsed' with voltage, would a VOM that has a Hz readout be able to display what is being signaled to the IAC? I would expect a VOM - analog or digital - would show a reduced...

Re: What year 4 cyl. Engines fit a 1996 Ranger

I don't have the answer, so did not reply. But. You could check with car-parts dot com, looking for an engine(complete) to replace the one you have. The search will return all engines that will...

Re: Very low idles after turning AC off

If you flip the switch and re-engage the A/C does the idle improve?

As suggested, take a look at the front of the compressor after you have turned off the A/C. If the front is turning, the...

Re: 2.3L, Tried almost everything, won't turn over.

As a guess, given you have spark, air, compression and fuel, and it won't fire, the spark is happening at the wrong time.
At the least, I would check the cam timing, as in put the crankshaft at...

Re: 2.3L, Tried almost everything, won't turn over.

As you gave no history except it won't start and you replaced parts, it is a bit harder to figure out what is going on.
At first, it would seem something is amiss, timing wise.
If you get pops...

Re: Failure mode

You have given very little information of value. To summarize: It's broken, and I don't know what to do.
no code
no flashing light
nothing except 'failure mode' ... how you know this?

Re: Bucking and misfire at light load

Where's the self-service boneyard? I'm down the road about 30 miles near Canton, and looking for an 89-94 2.3 cylinder head(actually the cam & followers, so a bad head is fine).
Given it runs OK...

Re: Bucking and misfire at light load

A thought is take a look at the MAF. It senses airflow, based on temperature drop on a heated wire, and could be coated with 'stuff', which would show less air coming in than actual. Also take a...

Re: Shorter drive belt considerations

DV - I did note the pulley should spin freely with the belt removed in the last sentence of my reply. Obviously, if it did not spin freely, that would indicate a problem with the clutch.
The IAC...

Re: Shorter drive belt considerations

If you look under the hood, you may find a chart/diagram showing the routing of the serpentine belt. If there is a non-A/C version, it will be shown with a belt bypassing the normal A/C pulley...

Re: Strange code issue need help

When you get a slew of codes, many times it is loss of good ground, corroded wires, or loose connections. The signal may get turned around, sort of, being 'closer to ground' than what another is...

Re: Hydraulic lifter removal 2.5 liter 1998 4cyl

I used a tool that I think was designed for the Chevy small block V8. It was a lever with a two-headed hook of some sort. The hook grabbed onto the valve spring and the lever was used to compress...

Re: 2000 2.5L 4-Cylinder

I would check a few things offhand. Check that the fuel pressure is still available when it shuts off. If the pump stops, pressure developed in the 'pre-START' condition, when the pump runs for 3-5...

Re: Intermittent Rough Idle

If you can clear up the 'problem' by erasing the codes, then a code being set is likely incorrect. The computer will use codes and senders to figure out its settings for fuel spark, etc. If one of...

Re: Intermittent Rough Idle

Off the top of my head, idle can get rough when there is 1)too little fuel, 2)too much fuel, 3)too much air, 4)bad sparky, 5)extra stuff leaking in(EGR?)
I would try to disconnect the EGR valve as...

Re: 2003 Ranger 2.3 fan bearing in timing cover

If the bearing is pressed into the cover, you might be able to get a replacement bearing of the same size from web vendors. I have gotten bearings from Fastenal, shipped to the local store for $.65...

Re: Hydraulic lifter removal 2.5 liter 1998 4cyl

When I did this to replace the valve stem seals, I used a lever to push the follower down and out of the way of the lobe. I cannot remember if it popped it off the lifter/support end first or last. ...

Re: Low Running Temp and Heater is...weird?

The temp sender is on the drivers side of the block, above and to the right of the oil filter.

If you have the ignition ON, and ground the sender wire, the gauge should peg immediately if not...

Re: 2000 Ranger 2.5L L4 not getting oil pressure

Take out the sparking plugs. Do not run the engine at all under power until you have developed oil pressure.
As I understand it, the pump is driven by the auxiliary shaft, the third sprocket on...

Re: 2002 2.3 down on power

The only test for a clutch (other than it smoking, and no movement...) was to get into top gear(not OD), and floor it. If the rpms went up faster than vehicle acceleration, there was slippage.
I...

Re: Fault Code 537 Throttle Unable to Open

Have you looked at the Throttle Position Sensor? If the sensor has 'dropout', or bad spots (likely from wear) it may be reporting the throttle is not open when it actually is.
A quick goog for...

Re: 96 ranger 2.3l donor swap into 75 luv

I never heard of a 'minimal' ecu for one. A CHEVY LUV? I predict a lot of time will be used to make something that no one else in the whole world would find to be a desirable transportation...
