Jingly-Jangly sound while rolling down the road

Your description in that other thread had me smiling; sounds exactly like what Iím trying to track down. And a loose part inside a brake drum would make EXACTLY the sound Iím hearing. Looks like I...

Re: Jingly-Jangly sound while rolling down the road

Thanks again. Definitely not the starter motor. Doesn't sound like its coming from the engine compartment (and doesn't make the noise while sitting still, only when rolling).

It literally sounds...

Re: Jingly-Jangly sound while rolling down the road

Good suggestion. It seems too constant to be exhaust (More like something rotating) but Iíll definitely crawl around and check all the heat shields.

Jingly-Jangly sound while rolling down the road

Hey guys,

2006 FX4, 205k miles. Bone stock, including Alcoa wheels. Only thing "special" is the 31" BFG AT tires.

We've had the truck about two years, and we use it for hunting trips and the...

Re: Coolant leak, front passenger side under alternator

Hey just wanted to follow back up on this thread. We replaced the thermostat housing, since that seems to be a very common problem. It looked like it had been done not too long ago (he's had the...

Re: Coolant leak, front passenger side under alternator

OK so I just pulled the entire t-stat housing and I can't see any obvious cause of leaks on the housing. Unfortunately the residual coolant in the upper radiator hose dumped all over my work area, so...

Re: Coolant leak, front passenger side under alternator

Thanks! Anything that we should replace (preventive maintenance) during the tear-down to get to it? Truck has 210k but itís been well maintained. However it still has s lot of the factory...

Coolant leak, front passenger side under alternator

Hey guys,

Did a lot of searching and most hits refer to leaky T-stat housings, but I don't think thats what the problem is here. (This is my son's truck and I'm just getting familiar with it so I...

Re: Helping my son buy his first Ranger

Thanks! I see the kit listed on Amazon and also found the fender well covers. For <$400 it seems like a good way to go. When you've installed them in auto 4x4 trucks, have you had to extend any...

Re: Helping my son buy his first Ranger

Thanks for the definitive answer. (I know this question is beaten to death on this forum).

The super lift is too much lift for what I think is needed.

Wondering about mods required with the...

Hey guys, posting back to this old thread because y'all were so helpful with all my questions prior to the purchase. After 15 months, the truck has been great so far - absolutely no issues. We did...

Re: Helping my son buy his first Ranger

I don't believe he did a "wet" compression test. According to the factory specs I've read online, Ford says "min" of 100 psi and that all cylinders be within 25% of one another (biggest variance was...

Re: Helping my son buy his first Ranger

OK final update before buying the car this weekend... Pre-inspection survey found no issues other than "worn out" spark plugs. Ball joints were in spec, no other issues.

Compression sounds like...

Helping my son buy his first Ranger

Actually I've rebuilt several engines, transfer cases, and transmissions from scratch, done a dozen valve jobs (by hand) and did my first V-8 engine swap into a Dodge Dart around 1979, so I'm no...

Re: Helping my son buy his first Ranger

Talked to the mechanic who has worked on the car since 2014. Regular oil changes and annual checkups, regular maintenance stuff sounds like it was all taken care of as needed (belts, hoses, battery,...

Re: Helping my son buy his first Ranger

Yes, agreed.

I'm figuring that at 195,000 miles, the LSD clutches are probably shot and will need a rebuild. Any idea what a typical service on the rear end costs?

Replace the bezel?...
