Re: Idles great, dies when I press the gas

Aftermarket tach wire breaking off should affect nothing, unless the ICM wire was touching voltage or ground. Left 'floating' it should do nothing. Grounded or with volts applied, who knows.
You...

Re: 1992 2.3 questions

If you can push start, then the computer must work... or the ignition would not fire.

If you have a TFI, Thick Film Ignition, module, manual transmission vehicles have a 'push start' mode, that...

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

Is the housing so badly worn you cannot just drive in the new bushing? You could use a length of PVC or CPVC pipe around the drive shaft to tickle the bushing back into the tailhousing. Customize...

Re: Idles great, dies when I press the gas

Two things pop up w/o much thought: If it has a MAF, check the MAF wires for 'stuff' and check the fuel pressure and delivered volume.
When you open the throttle, the TPS(could also check that ......

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

I can't tell anything from the pictures. If the tailhousing area where the bushing resides is worn, the a new bushing will not fix the problem as it will not 'seat', and sit still to perform its...

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

Tail shaft bushing likely got worn, resulting in slop that has taken out the new seal.
You can drive in a new bushing w/o removing the old if you need to, as the old will just sit on the output...

Re: Mysterious fuel issue

Voltage drop... I'd check the battery terminals. Could be loose enough to limit available current to run things.
I had a similar problem. Thought it was water in the gas. Was intermittent...

Re: 1990 2.3 High Idle and Drinking Gas

When the compressor is not being used for A/C, the pulley and bearing rotate independent of the compressor. If you get noise and squeaks with the compressor idle, it is in the bearing/clutch...

Re: Engine Temp

I would suggest Forscan as an app. It can use OBD-II 'readers' that plug into the port, and runs on PC, Android and apple IOS(?). Cost free, I believe. It is more FoMoCo oriented and will do both...

Re: Engine Temp

IMO, right on the money. The gauges usually run a bit to the left of middle in my experience.
I observe the tach reading about 2100-2200 rpms when going about 60mph. I think my speedo is a bit...

Re: 1990 2.3 High Idle and Drinking Gas

I have not watched nor listened....

If you have to cycle the ignition a few times, you likely have a drainback or leak(internal) problem. Cycling the key runs the fuel pump for 3-5 seconds on...

Re: 1990 2.3 High Idle and Drinking Gas

I would suggest searching for 'bleeding the heater' as I think you have air in the heater hoses & heater core.

Re: 1990 2.3 High Idle and Drinking Gas

Fuel pressure seems about right. If you pull the vacuum line with the engine idling, the pressure should bump up.
If you ground the gauge sender wire, the one on the drivers side of the block...

Re: 1990 2.3 High Idle and Drinking Gas

When you first start the engine, the IAC should bump the idle to around 1100-1200 rpms. If it does not, either the IAC does not work, or the temperature senders are not telling the computer the...

Re: 1990 2.3 High Idle and Drinking Gas

Start the engine and feel the temperature of the upper radiator hose. It should stay cold until the engine warms a bit, and then get hot quickly when the thermostat opens. If it slowly warms, the...

Re: Engine advice 2.3

If it was driven by a little old lady that never revved about 2000 rpm, you may have a ton of carbon on the piston and combustion chamber. That can cause higher compression and pre-ignition(ping). ...

Re: 2.3l starter issues

I think I would try a prybar between the block and the starter motor. It appears you have a lot of corrosion, and that could be holding things together. You will have a fun time trying to get the...

Re: 2.3l starter issues

It should not be startable with the Bendix on the wrong side as the gear teeth could never mesh, so the torque of the starter would just grind metal to metal on the edge/whatever of the flywheel.

Re: Does the 2.3 DOHC (2002) have an EGR self-test?

Even without A/C, the heater/defrost/panel controls may be vacuum operated. If that's the case, the hiss may be an under-dash leak. A leak would possibly explain the drop in vacuum when...

Re: 2010 timing chaing

The dohc 2.3 has a timing chain.

I'd look for cam cover leaks which might flood the plug wells, the electric thermostat if equipped with one, and the coolant hose condition. From perusing, there...

Re: Quick Help Needed....What's gone wrong??

You might have gotten out the door for the pinion and wheel bearing with less cost by replacing the whole rear axle. Many times you can get the whole assembly for less time and effort. Having it...

Re: Where to splice in for a vacuum gauge

Older models had a small multiple port vacuum manifold on the firewall. The ports were plugged/covered except for the ones in use, such as HVAC, power brake booster, cruise control. Any of those...

Re: Quick Help Needed....What's gone wrong??

Try turning from side to side gently while in motion. If a front wheel bearing, they'd generally change tone or the noise even disappear when put into a 'side load'.
You could also hold your hand...

Re: Quick Help Needed....What's gone wrong??

I would check the level of gear oil in the differential. The noise could also be a wheel bearing going out. Wheel bearings will whine, and may grind. You'd have to get one wheel off the ground so...

Re: Is it possible to change oil pan gasket without removing engine?

Unless Ford has changed their ways, the gauge does not indicate true oil pressure, just that there is pressure enough to close the switch. The switch closes, and a ground connects through a resistor...
