Re: 94 2.3 fuel problem

I can tell you that on a 93, it is absolutely not a frame rail mounted pump. The 2 piece lift+pressure pump system is a relic of the 80s, used on Fox platform cars and trucks to a point...by 93 it...

Re: 86 ranger 2.3L won’t pass smog.

Tom is correct, one sender for gauge, one sensor for computer.

There's a bit more to testing the accuracy. The EEC-IV self-test requires the vehicle be at operating temp for the test. If you run...

Re: 86 ranger 2.3L won’t pass smog.

One of the more likely reasons for failing on NOx is EGR, so I think you're on the right track.

Yes...if you ground it straight to body ground, you won't be able to drive the truck at all, or keep...

Re: 8 spark plugs 96 ranger

I was going to say this last night, because my understanding is the same (the passenger side plugs are the ones the engine depends on to start and run).

However since I don't have a twin plug...

Re: Put 2.3 EFI intake on 2.0?

Edit: Content of this reply edited into OP.

I also cross-posted this topic on TRS, as I wasn't sure how much traffic this forum sees with people who know the early engines very well. The thread...

Put 2.3 EFI intake on 2.0?

Completely re-written from what it was originally, for clarity (I kept editing in new info as I found it, and the post got very ugly):

I have searched a fair bit and can't find any references to...

Re: blkpnthr's 1985 Beater

I kinda like the character of the first gen Rangers, so even if it is a bit of a sh!tbox in various ways (and believe me, that title is well-justified), I enjoy doing the work.

I don't have any...

Re: blkpnthr's 1985 Beater

Look at that, it's time for my yearly post!

Re: blkpnthr's 1985 Beater

I found a TK4 truck in a yard!

Grabbed the shifter, and it improved the shift quality so much it feels like a totally different vehicle. Bolted on with no...

Re: blkpnthr's 1985 Beater

Dropping in for somewhat of a seasonal update.

The truck did very well through the winter, though it was a mild one with maybe a total of 6 inches of snow for the whole winter...

It has been...

Re: PMGR Starter upgrade for 2.0/2.3

That would have been the smart thing to do, wouldn't it? Thanks for the pointer.

The same flywheel is spec'd for all 4-banger Rangers 1983-1994, according to RockAuto. So, I guess that answers...

Re: PMGR Starter upgrade for 2.0/2.3

Well...alright.

Found a sympathetic person at the part store who ordered the starters for comparison's sake...

Physical mounting is definitely a go. The problem is the drive gear that engages...

Re: PMGR Starter upgrade for 2.0/2.3

Almost forgot I posted this. Bump?

If the best way to figure this out is going to be to just try it and see, well, so be it. I do like a better degree of certainty though.

Lubricate manual steering gear?

My manual steering gear has very little slop, so in the interest of longevity I'd like to lubricate it (e.g. it's in good enough shape that it's worth maintaining). I'm guessing it probably is...

Re: Temperature gauge not working

With one of my other vehicles (also a Ford, not much older) the gauge itself failed. Some sort of internal short. Reason for the anecdote: it is a possibility, and not an unlikely one.

I'm with...

Re: Carb 2.0 stalling at first start in the cold

After some further adjustments I've got it pretty much the best it's been since I bought the thing, though with some imperfections still be to be worked out.

Somewhat of a timeline:

Re: 2.0 Carb Upgrade?

Having investigated the same, I came to the following conclusions. I have not looked into any of them far enough or in enough detail to know if they'll actually accomplish anything favourable though....

PMGR Starter upgrade for 2.0/2.3

Hi everyone,

As done on my Grand Marquis, I'd like to upgrade the starter from direct drive to permanent magnet with gear reduction (PMGR) on my Ranger (1985, 2.0). I searched and can't seem to...

Re: Carb 2.0 stalling at first start in the cold

Well, just froze my fingers off fiddling around with it...as I remembered, the pull-off was opening the choke about halfway which evidently was too much.

I did a very unscientific, unmeasured...

Re: Carb 2.0 stalling at first start in the cold

That makes sense actually, since I found it strange that the fast idle cam has multiple settings but it will never fall on any of them if the engine is running.

The linkage is not "adjustable" in...

Re: Carb 2.0 stalling at first start in the cold

The choke, when cold, does stay completely closed or close to it. The engine does not have any difficulty starting which is good.

But, it does sound like a choke issue to you?

I'm thinking the...

Carb 2.0 stalling at first start in the cold

Hey, so this is probably "carb tuning 101", but this is the first carb I've had to play with to get it running right...

The 2.0 has a Carter YFA carb as those of you familiar with it probably...

Re: '85 RWD front sway bar retrofit

Thanks for the info.

I went to a junkyard the other day and as it happens one of the Rangers had a sway bar so I was able to kind of study how it mounts...looks as if I need to undo the radius...
