Was surprised that none of the experienced guys/gals posted anything about this.

After taking the instrument cluster out, I saw the answer.
The 4 bulbs are for the functions Air Bag, Battery,...

Unlike others here, I am retarded and don't regularly mess with vehicles, so it took me over 3 hours.

Instrument cluster bulbs, too few for the functions

2004 Ford Ranger instrument cluster. There are 11 bulbs in the back.
4 of those bulbs are grouped in bottom middle.
However, there are 16 functions that can light up on the front of the instrument...

It was indeed a wheel bearing.
Very strange how it was not constant, but that was the problem and it was solved with a new wheel bearing.

In another thread, I thought my 4wd was trying to engage causing noise at driver front wheel.
Others convinced me it was a wheel bearing, mainly because with my 2004 Ranger, the wheel and front...

As I can imagine, a wheel bearing going out would make noise all the time, not just for a few feet after a startup.

Posts here talk about trouble getting 4x4 to engage.
I have the opposite.
My 4x4 tries to engage without my asking it to.
Generally starts within 20-30 feet after I start the engine and drive...

Hello

Leo here.
Have 2004 Ford Ranger 4x4 with 4.0 engine.
Bought it used with about 110,000 miles on it.
Very poor gas mileage !!
