Re: How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

Hi Tom,
Yes, I tried some of the dry lube on my fingers and in 5 seconds it was non-existent, no slip whatsoever, so I decided against that.

I bought silicone lube spray today and took my IAC off...

Re: How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

Thanks, Tom.
I definitely think that my new Motorcraft IAC valve was malfunctioning in some way, whether due to under-lubrication (I read on a forum that IACV pintle workings have a thin layer of...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

Just updating my thread to state that I think I solved my dropping/fluctuating idle by lubricating the mechanical part of the IAC valve. Now the idles seem smooth and stable, but I'll know for sure...

Re: How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

Thanks for the info, GSF.
I actually have some 3-in-One Dry Lube for locks, I probably should've lubricated it with that. I think I'll use that in the future if I need to lubricate an IAC valve.

Re: How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

Thanks, Tom!

So as y'all know, I have dropping/fluctuating idle about 10% of the time. The mechanic told me he yesterday he strongly suspected vacuum leak, so I thoroughly investigated my vacuum...

Re: How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

Thanks very much, EAOutlaw.
That's very helpful! I'll probably do the compressor replacement next weekend, and perhaps also the accumulator & orifice tube. Just have to have all my ducks in a row...

Re: How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

Thank you, both, I appreciate the responses.

TomW, can I easily replace the accumulator with my plastic AC coupler disconnect tools, or do I need any special tools/skills to do that? If it's...

How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

I am going to be replacing my AC compressor with new Motorcraft unit. I've got the compressor, the vacuum pump, the manifold gauge, the tap, the PAG 46 oil, the R134A, the O-rings, the AC disconnect...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

I'm the OP, just thought I'd update:

My idle RPMs still drop & fluctuate a bit sometimes when I stop, but I found out my AC refrigerant leak is coming from my compressor. A nice mechanic looked at...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

Thanks for the info.

Yes, my IMRC flaps started knocking soon after I bought my truck last November - kind of a fluttering knock that started right at startup - and so I replaced my whole intake...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

GSF1200S, I'm definitely no expert on thermostats, I'm not sure why Ford put that awful electric-assisted thermostat in but I do know that on hot days while idling in traffic with AC on, I'd see my...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

A 180 will slow the engine warming up to its ultimate temperature by allowing the coolant to start flowing sooner than a 190.

There's a misconception that a thermostat maintains a more or less...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

I love my Gates 180* thermostat. I have nothing bad to say about it. I don't run any monitoring software so I can't say what temps my engine gets up to or if it still eventually gets up to the same...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

Thanks.
I think I misspoke, when I wrote it would fall to almost zero I just meant that when the compressor clutch engaged it would rapidly start falling into the low range, but then the clutch...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

I use Arctic Freeze, it's like $35, and in the future you can just buy the cheaper canister without the gauge on it because you reuse the gauge on this one.

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

My recharge canister came with a detachable/reusable gauge on it, which is used to test the pressure.

Just remember that the pressure you're looking at is when the clutch engages. When the clutch...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

Yes, my AC was still blowing quite cold yesterday (when the compressor was actually engaging).

My understanding now is that in a properly charged AC system, the compressor clutch stays running all...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

So I recharged my AC and the idle RPMs seem back to normal now. From googling, it seems like other people have noticed the same issue that their idle RPMs get lower when their AC compressor clutch...

New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

Hi,

I am having some problems with my truck.

A month or so I replaced my IAC valve with a new Motorcraft one from RockAuto because I had noticed some up and down fluctuation in my idle RPMs....

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

You're doing great, and that's good news: there's no indication that your clutch fan is malfunctioning or that you have a head gasket leak.

When your truck is fully heated, the level in the...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

What did your gauge register when this happened? Was the gauge visibly showing overheating?

Try spinning your fan by hand - the one that's attached to the pulley system. If it keeps spinning after...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

I wrote that about the tank cap because I initially thought I read it was puking out, but I see that you didn't say that. Since it was not puking out the cap, then there's probably no need for a new...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

If coolant was puking at all out of the overflow tank, then it's very likely that your overflow tank cap is worn out and needs a new cap. They're only a few dollars at any parts store. I had coolant...

Re: Intermittent ticking, loudest at bracket

Yes, the Ford dealership quote me "between $700 and $1000."

But a small shop I called that has a great reputation quoted me $500 for parts & labor, which is much more reasonable, so I'll probably...
