There should not be any noise when driving in four wheel or two wheel drive.There could be something wrong with the transfer case.

New u-joints don't wear out that fast.Pull the drive shaft again and check that the u-joints are free and installed correctly and check for a bent front yoke.Check for rust at the diff mounting...

I think it's overpriced by at least two thousand dollars.My 2006 fx4 with 78000 miles is only worth $7500. to $8500 dollars.And it's clean with no rust.

White smoke at times signals antifreeze going into a cylinder .Keep a eye on the antifreeze level.Could be a bad head gasket or cracked head or intake gasket.

I had the same problem and replaced the sensors and that didn't work.Had to replace both hubs a tone ring in one of the hubs was bad causing low voltage in the right hub.If you can find a ABS code...
