Re: Fixing To Remove Throttle Body For Cleaning - What Is Best Solvent?

Ayup. I would add that removing the throttle body and using a tooth brush(or equivalent) over a cake pan to catch the brake clean(TB cleaner) so you can re-splash it onto the gunk to give it more...

Re: Possible major oil leak

Try some 15w40 ... For diesel service. If you are in a non-freezing zone, it should be good for hot days, and have no start-up flow problems. Little stronger base oil used than the 10W.

Re: Possible major oil leak

The PCV valve is embedded in what appears to be heater hose on the drivers side, almost under the intake manifold. There is an oil separator plugged into the side of the block(under the center of...

Re: Possible major oil leak

Given that is is unlikely someone is stealing your oil, I would check the PCV system. If the valve gets stuck or the oil separator on the side of the engine under the intake gets filled with...

Re: Not sure if knock or misfire or both?

Dang, he starts to hone in on the sound, getting closer and closer and then starts to wave the camera/phone around like he's flying a drone.
I would be checking the timing chain area as that seemed...

Re: What engine sensor is this?

Must be all the fires driving the critters to find new homes... Gavin will take care of it, I'm sure... by taxing the beans out of all those rich people ... who will move.

Re: 2008 4 cyl. fires then stalls immediately

If it fires and then stalls every time, you may be losing your signal to the computer that the engine is running. The computer will disable the fuel pump(or they did before anyway) after the 3-5...

Re: What could cause this misfire

The IAC - Idle Air Control - adjusts and fiddles with the idle speed when cold, when the A/C compressor is slated to be turned on, and when you move the steering wheel, as when parking.{engine...

Re: odd sensor readings for 2.3l with P0172

from a search:

P0172 System Too Rich (Bank 1)
Technical Description

System Too Rich (Bank 1)
What does that mean?

This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code, which...

Re: What could cause this misfire

Have you cleaned the throttle body in the recent past? I had a very weak cold idle for the longest time. Never threw a code, but would stumble and hesitate until it was warmed up, ALWAYS.
I took...

Re: What could cause this misfire

There is something wrong with this web site. I regularly check for 'new' posts, even on weekends, and did not see this one. If a post is not flagged(little tag next to the post) I do not look...

Re: Not sure if knock or misfire or both?

You might want to look into 'intake manfold runner flap' type noise. The duratec (some) had a vacuum operated flap that changed the intake runner length at specific rpms. When it failed, it made...

98% of hosts underhood, vacuum and cooling system, are replaced with generic hose, sold by the foot, from auto parts stores. Some metal/rubber combination hoses are OEM available only.

Re: Thermostat dropping temp randomly?

If this behavior only happens with a particular 'drive cycle', i.e., coming home from work, then it must be load related. UNLESS. Unless you have wires that only jitter or shake loose, or voltage...

Re: Thermostat dropping temp randomly?

My best guess is that the load on the engine is lesser for that section of the drive. The harder the engine has to work - uphill, into the wind, coasting, accelerating, whatever changes speed or...

Re: What could cause this misfire

Could it be the coolant and air temperature sensors used by the computer to tune the fuel:air mix for a cold engine are sending bogus temperatures? Does the IAC increase idle speed when the engine...

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

Have you actually used a scan tool after replacing the sensor & gear? You may have another code.
Have you checked the fuse box/power distribution box to see that the transmission solenoid pack has...

Re: 1987 2.0l

To my knowledge, the camshafts are the same between the 2.0 and the 2.3, so you should be able to use one from either.
I think there are specs for camshafts here:

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

You have to fit the gear that is designed for that transmission. The characteristics are all important, diameter, length, number of teeth, angle of the teeth, tooth height and space.

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

Most of the gears I have seen wear into an 'hourglass' shape over time, a long time. If there is dirt inside, it can act to wear the teeth quickly. If the tip of the sensor sticks out past the...

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

Were the original and replacement housings the same... except for the condition of the bushing, of course? The speed sensor has a gear on the end that must mesh with a kind of 'spiral' gear on the...

Re: 2001 2.5L fuel pump issues.

You can get just the pump and install it into the current 'sender' assembly. The pump kit, if you get one, should come with a new 'sock', a length of fuel line, a couple clamps, and a new O-ring.

Re: Idles great, dies when I press the gas

Aftermarket tach wire breaking off should affect nothing, unless the ICM wire was touching voltage or ground. Left 'floating' it should do nothing. Grounded or with volts applied, who knows.

Re: New drive shaft/transmission seal leaking bad.

Is the housing so badly worn you cannot just drive in the new bushing? You could use a length of PVC or CPVC pipe around the drive shaft to tickle the bushing back into the tailhousing. Customize...
