Re: Speakers only work in in park/neutral

We started seeing this particular issue and other strange phantom problems after Ford switched over to the Smart Junction Box in 2004+ MY Rangers. The complaint often follows a rainy period and may...

Re: Do i really have an Edge?

Those items are options that could be added to an Edge at the time of the factory order. They are not the standard equipment that defines it as an Edge.

The simplest way is to check the front...

Re: 2003 ford ranger 2.3 to 5.0 swap questions

No need to go on this unicorn hunt. All 5.0L Explorers were Gen II and all were torsion bar equipped. There were no coil spring variants, regardless of whether the Ex was 2WD or AWD.

98+ 2WD coil...

Re: Is this 4 wheel abs?

If it has an ABS hydraulic unit and/or electronic module underhood, then it is 4WABS.

Ranger RABS used a small switch/solenoid unit on the DS frame rail and an electronic module inside the dash.

Re: This really has me stumped about the CC recall

Has the Deactivation Switch recall been done yet? There should be no expiration date for a safety recall like this.

Re: Can my VIN tell me what t-bars I have?

Look up to my previous post for bar diameters and their codes.

Measure the t-bar diameter and pick the closest one. For example, my #1 bars measure around 1.10" but the spec dimension is 1.09".

Re: 99 ranger 5 speed 5.0 swap questions and build

Not much for 98~00 Ranger except for PATS which varies by year and engine:

98 3.0/4.0 --- no PATS

99~00 3.0/4.0 --- PATS

98~00 2.5 --- no PATS

Re: What are the worst design flaws by Auto Manufacturers?

Quality? No. IMO, all stock style replacements range from bad to worse. Best bet is probably OE but they still suck.

If you could find a performance slave/throwout from some company like McLeod...

Re: What could cause this code?

Stored code(s) happen as soon as there is a fault. Requires 2 consecutive trips with same fault code before CEL comes on. If a code is not cleared after a successful repair, it remains in PCM memory...

Re: What could cause this code?

P1445 is a failure of a simple electrical test. Be sure that the connector body is properly seated and that no pins have been bent or pushed back inside the connector. There's also a chance that the...

Re: What could cause this code?

Here's the summary as I understand it:

You have have a 95 Ranger with a recurring fault code P1443. So far, the only parts that have been replaced are the Canister Purge Solenoid Valve and the...

Re: What could cause this code?

A leak at the cap or neck can trigger various trouble codes but not P1443.

For 95~97 Ranger, P1443 may be caused by a leak or blockage somewhere between the canister outlet and the intake...

Re: Moog upper control arm question.

I don't see any need for a special tool.

There's no difference PS to DS except the arms are mirror image. You'd have to ask MOOG why the assembly difference.

Re: Moog upper control arm question.

The factory puts in squarish, fixed plates that are select fit on the assembly line. To field adjust the alignment, you need replacement cams.

Any Ford or aftermarket cam adjuster set made for...

Re: Moog upper control arm question.

It is a direct swap. If you don't already have them installed, you'll need an adjuster cam kit to replace the factory fixed adjusters. Then have the alignment done.

Re: Is this 4 wheel abs?

U.S. / Canadian Ranger ABS systems by year:

1989~1994:
RABS (1-channel, 2-wheel, rear-only ABS) was standard factory equipment on all Rangers.

1995~2000:
RABS (1-channel, 2-wheel,...

Re: What could cause this code?

A canister is originally filled with granulated carbon that can capture and store hydrocarbons evaporating from the fuel tank. These HC are later drawn into the running engine and burned. It appears...

Re: What could cause this code?

It is basically an on/off valve but I suspect that it should be installed the way the factory did it. There is slight difference in the port layout and that may be to avoid having engine vacuum...

Re: What could cause this code?

The line from the fuel tank to the canister is important for some fault codes but it has nothing to do with P1443. P1443 just says that the PCM has compared open and closed purge flow rates using the...

Re: What could cause this code?

You can't say for sure that the PFS is bad. There's no field test that you can do to check it. However, if you can eliminate leaks and blockages in the system as a cause and you have already replaced...

Re: What could cause this code?

2 most likely causes:

- Leak or blockage in the network of hoses between the carbon canister and the intake manifold.

OR

- Failed Purge Flow Sensor.
