Re: Blown Engine?

I'd say that engine is toast. Would be much faster to get a good salvage yard one or buy a rebuilt one. It's probably cracked all over so I wouldn't waste too much time on it.

Re: Impact Sensor Location

When I fixed my Escort, they were almost inside the front bumper. Had to take it off and they were 2 black plastic cubes about 2 inches wide with a little steel bracket and a couple wires coming out....

Re: Seized alternator question

It's hard to say how long it will last but likely it won't last long. Replace it asap.

Re: Hit curb 01 ranger edge need help!!

Report it as a hit and run asap! You shouldn't have left the scene quickly and tried to see if there were any witnesses and call the cops from there.

But about your truck, something is bent....

Re: Ford Explorer 4.0 bolted to my 97 ranger 5 speed rwd

The M50D-R1 might fit an old 302. I'm not sure. Someone else will hopefully chime in. From what I've heard around it's not a very strong trans. A stock 302 wouldn't put out much more power than a 4.0...

Re: Ford Explorer 4.0 bolted to my 97 ranger 5 speed rwd

Because you would have to change the whole wiring harness also and make some custom exhaust. I'm sure it can be done if the bell housing bolts match up but it would be a bit of work overall. It would...

Re: Repairing for Beginners

After a couple weeks of class, ask the teacher nicely and you might be able to at least get your truck in after hours.

Re: Why is Truck MPG so Low?

Air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, a caliper that is dragging, bad or wrong oil, locked up fan clutch, dirty O2 sensors, dirty MAF sensor, all are simple things that can can cause bad...

Re: Easiest way to get traction

About 150-200 pounds of weight AND good snow tires will do more than a locker or limited slip

Re: Truck keeps dying

Interior lights come on? Check the other end of the battery cables. They can corrode too. If you are getting power everywhere but it won't crank, it could be the key switch. They wear out especially...

Re: What battery?

I still use Optima red tops. I know they are not the battery they used to be but they still are pretty good.

Re: Just threw on bigger tires. Thats like bigger gears? Or smaller?

Bigger diameter tires is the same as putting a higher gear in the rear end. Opposite is true. You will quickly feel a difference in acceleration as soon as you drive it.

Need help identifying this clutch

So this is a strange one but we have some pretty sharp mechanics here so I'm hoping someone might be of some help. I am trying to figure out what automatic transmission this friction plate is from. I...

Re: Put all your new truck dreams temporarily aside... What if I told you

Electric cars are neat and fast, but they won't ever take over. Hydrogen is the future. Unless we can figure out how to charge a battery in less than 5 minutes that will last 200-300 miles...

Re: Brakes losing pressure

Obviously check for leaks everywhere under the truck and hood. Usually the loosing pressure and having to pump up like you described is a leaky line or more likely a bad master cylinder. What has me...

Re: Wont stay aligned after Ball joints/tie rod end replacement.

My guess would be the front springs are shot or the wheel bearings are way past gone.

Re: Fuel pump not turning on

Check all the fuses. Some are under the hood and some in the side of the dash.

I've never heard of an inertia cutoff switch getting melted so you may have wiring problems in lots of places...

Re: Sounds like a rock stuck in my tire... but no rock! Other sources?

Check to make sure there is nothing that might be touching the driveshaft. Sounds can echo around underneath a vehicle.

Re: 1st gear almost impossible while not moving

If the pilot bearing is worn to the point of having more friction than normal or "hanging up", then it would keep the input shaft spinning when the clutch is disengaged. This could cause symptoms...

Re: Catastrophic Failure, but what could it have been?

If it was a brand new 2018 model, it likely has been sitting for a little while, but I wouldn't think a year would be long enough for calipers to lock up...

Re: Catastrophic Failure, but what could it have been?

Something was defective or not put together properly. Likely something came loose inside the transmission or transfer case and caused it to lock up all 4. Could have been a malfunction in the ABS...
