Re: which engine oil?

Still, no one can prove or disprove that dinosaurs weren't part of the mix. No one truly knows, either way.

Oh, and you lost me with your ridiculous bible nonsense. Sorry, but I'm not in to...

Re: Catastrophic Failure, but what could it have been?

If you were in the US I'd only have one thing to say; Retain a lawyer regardless.

Seems like you got lucky in more ways than one.

Re: 4x4 hubs

Being a 2001 I'm surprised it has vacuum pulse hubs. My 2001 doesn't.

"Some oil fields—like Australia's—seem to have a lot of terrestrial sources. Most of this is plants, but some is certainly animals."

If you'd update your location to a real place, someone might come forward to offer you a shell you like.

Re: which engine oil?

No one can actually prove there was/wasn't creatures that became a part of crude oil. Why? Because they weren't there to see those materials get buried over time. Any of it could have trace amounts....

Re: which engine oil?

None of you can really prove that conventional oil doesn't have actual dinosaur juice in it. We all realize where it actually comes from, but still, you can't prove it. :aetsch:

Re: which engine oil?

With the SOHC 4.0 oil weight matters more than oil type or brand. Synthetic or dinosaur juice. Your choice. Although nearly everyone I've ever known with a 4.0 ran synthetic..

The timing chain...

Re: AC clutch replace - should I scrape this gunk off?

It's likely metal filings sticking to the magnetized surface. UNLESS it appears that the surface has been gouged into. Then you got bigger problems and will need a new clutch at the very least.

Re: 1st gear almost impossible while not moving

My only guess, without diagnosing the truck in person, would be a weak master or slave cylinder, or a worn out (possible broken fingers) pressure plate..

Re: 1st gear almost impossible while not moving

Please elaborate how a pilot bearing would cause this issue...

All a pilot bearing does is support the front end of the transmission input shaft.

Re: Are they kidding?

That's the going rate for that battery on Ebay. Other sellers have very similar prices. Ford dealerships probably get lucky quite often and find people that have no idea that a battery shouldn't cost...

Re: Nicks 5.0 ranger build

Either you were making too much torque for the T5 or you had a weak/improperly built, or worn out T5. Mine gets beat on daily and it handles it with ease. With 4:10 gears I'm shifting a ton as well....

Re: (TN) 01 Ranger Edge 4x4

That's a rare model. Not very many Edge models were spec'd as a single cab with 4x4 and the 4.0 engine. I searched for mine for 2 years. I only found 2 in those two years and one got sold out from...

Re: Leak question

Check your PCV valve first. If the PCV valve gets plugged up, crankcase pressure can build, causing leaks in any wear areas such as old seals or old gaskets.

I've seen several forums go dead over the years due to lack of user participation. They slowly die off and eventually someone stops paying to maintain/store the data. I was a moderator on a couple of...

Re: Quick Help Needed....What's gone wrong??

I'm gonna say it's a brake pad worn down to the metal backing. The squeal can really happen at any speed it prefers, and when you hit the brakes it can sound like a grinding sound. Plus it's super...

Bump because I've really been thinking about doing this to my 302 swapped 87 shortbed.

Someone's had to do it by now?

Re: 4.10 ls and disk brake conversion

No way I'd do the rear disc conversion again. I noticed NO difference at all in stopping distance or power. The 33" tires and the sheer weight of my truck may have something to do with it. Not sure...

He checked in here a day after that response.

Any word on your results so this thread can really help others? I'd really like to know myself.
