Re: 1997 ranger door sensor?

Or if you're feeling really adventurous you can pull the fuse for the dome light/door buzzer and do this....

Re: 3.27 gear in a 7.5" open rear end?

M5OD. My normal daily drive is basically flat with the occasional hill. But not so steep that I have to downshift out of 5th. Only two short hills (same hill once each direction) that need 4th gear...

Re: 3.27 gear in a 7.5" open rear end?

Thank you Undrstm8ed. It's nice to have someone that understands. I'm pretty sure the 3.08 is way too tall with the 2.3l but the 3.45 might be an option. Even with the taller tires (235/75/15) the...

Re: 3.27 gear in a 7.5" open rear end?

Already went with the 235/75/15's. Hankook Kinergy PT low rolling resistance tires made in the USA.

Didn't some of the Rangers from the '90s come with the 3.45's and even the 3.08's? Ford...

3.27 gear in a 7.5" open rear end?

Hello all.

I am contemplating a rear end swap in my 2003 XL. My goals are strictly gas mileage. I don't tow anything and only haul very light loads maybe once a month or so.

I looked up which...

Re: Get better mpg with A/T tires

Ok. I'm ready to hear all the groaning and calls of B***S***, but I really don't care.
My old '97 with the 2.3 Lima got a consistent 28-29 mpg running 225/75/15 Firestone Destination A/T's. 5%...

Where to splice in for a vacuum gauge

I've looked and only found two threads on installing a vacuum gauge, but both have zero replies. I'm hoping this one doesn't become the third.

I'm looking to hook up a vacuum gauge in my '03 XL...

Rectangle shaped muffler?

Hello everyone.

I'm sure there is a simple answer to this one but I am confused about the muffler under my '03 XL 4cyl. It's a rectangle "pillow" shaped thing with another piece about the size...

Re: speedometer gearing

Put your old tire size and your new tire size into the "calculator" on this site and it will tell you how much the speedometer will be off.

Your odometer...

'03 2.3l seems to idle too high

I previously had a 2.3l Lima and loved it. Now I have a 2.3l Duratech and haven't learned enough about it yet to diagnose anything.

On start up it idles about 1500 rpm and settles at about 1000...

Re: Buying another Ranger.....need some advice

@dvrich.... Not trying to "poke the bear" but I never put much stock in the EPA MPG stickers anyhow. My '97 was listed at 22 city/26 highway for a combined 24mpg. If I was getting 26 I knew there...

Re: Buying another Ranger.....need some advice

The Lima's ended in 2001 I believe. The 2.3l until '97 and then stroked to the 2.5l. Mine is a 2.3l Duratech. Totally different design.

8.8 Rear end into a 2003 XL

Hello everyone.

I am thinking about swapping an 8.8 rear end into my 2003 XL. Mine has the 3:73 gears in it and I want better options for fuel mileage. IIRC the 4.0 Rangers came with an 8.8...

Re: Wheel bolt pattern size question

Thanks for the info beaterpc. I don't like the steel wheels on the new to me Ranger. Very heavy and bad home done black paint job. I'm looking for something much lighter. Maybe something from a...

Re: Buying another Ranger.....need some advice

Well I found a nice 2003 XL with only 75k miles on it. 2.3 5-speed/OD stick. Plain Jane. Only paid $5000 total for it. Too bad I hit a deer 12 hours later. Definitely repairable. To the tune of...

Re: How long does a coil pack last?

As it sits right now I still have the factory coil packs on my '97. Just turned 280K miles yesterday. It is time for new plugs and wires though but the coil packs seem fine.

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

Just turned 265,000 yesterday on my way to work. Engine has never been pulled out. No head work and original clutch. Now I need to go and change my signature.

Re: Fuel Gauge Fluctuation

Well....bad news. The fluctuations are back along with the CEL. The tank straps seem to not have any affect on the problem. I'm still leaning towards a sending unit problem. I guess I'm going to...

Well, a small update.....I'm not sure if it had anything to do with my problem but two days ago I found a broken gas tank strap. I replaced both straps and so far I haven't noticed any fluctuations....

Re: Fuel Gauge Fluctuation

I have a temp gauge but it holds real steady at just under halfway. It's amazing how cool these 2.3l's run.

The fuel gauge used to fluctuate only below a half tank, but every once in a while it...
