Is the CEL ON? If it is, maybe the ignition module? That's what my was doing I pulled the codes. $130 later problem solved.

Mothers is fine, but if they are really tarnished you may not want to use it. It really takes a long while with the Mothers. You may want to try to sand them with a 3M kit or even the one by Turtle...

The plastic box attached to the side of your intake is the ignition module. You will need a extremely narrow walled socket to get it off. Or pick up the correct tool at the parts store for 5-10...
