Turned out to be the fuel pump. I pulled the unit and replaced the pump and strainer. Cost a little over $100. Guess I need to start looking into replacing some other things that have lasted way...

I can't get to the injector connector or the injector because they are located underneath the intake manifold.

While the truck was running I pulled the plug from the coil pack for the #5 cylinder...

Hmmm....speaking of longevity, I have 285,610 miles on my 98 Ranger. Still driving with the original clutch!

Flushed out the heater core today. Heat stopped working so I flushed all of the brown crap out of it and the heat works again....yippeee.

Changed the blower motor resistor. Now my heating fan works on all the blower settings instead of just high.

Well, finally got rid of the two codes.

The causes were:

1. Two vacuum leaks
2. Weak fuel pump

So after replacing two hoses AND installing a new fuel pump the codes went away.

Yeah there are issues with the core (I think).

What I am wondering is why the engine temperature needle drops when I turn the heater fan off??
