Not to hijack, but what about an electronic exhaust cutout? Stock for street and straight pipe for offroad; all at a flip of a switch.

For the two times i have had thermostat failure, the thing stuck closed. Also it pumps less water when its closed because its not pumping anything from the radiator, the primary source of heat...
