honestly, if you get the motor and trans for free from your dad's stang, that will be cheaper. ideally, try and get the stang right next to your truck so that you can swap things over one by one....

if he's doing a 5.0 swap, just take all the 3.8 wiring and the transmission. why bother keeping the one that was in your truck if you can have the trans from the stang.
