Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

Alright, so I take it that I couldn't run regular gas on say 10 to 1 or so compression? And would I get a good power difference or fuel economy out of milling it till it needs premium? Would either...

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

So how can I tell the difference between the 2.5 head and the 2.3? Is milling .050 off the most I could do to run on mid grade? And how do you find the best degree for the valve timing?

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

Right on, ya know I think I might have an idea for what I want to do. Any input is much appreciated. The v8 swap I think is just going to cost more and for sure be more effort in tracking down parts...

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

Yes, I've actually got the whole 2.5 engine minus the intake and exhaust. I do however have those already on the 2.3 that's in the truck. So how much did you gain from decking the head and using the...

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

Could I really do all that swap for $1000? If that's for sure then yes I could consider doing that, but I haven't researched that swap very much, and I'm not sure what transmission came in this...

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

Why are the forged pistons worth it, just for compression or real high rpm? And so those people listed above can make a tune for anyone's engine?

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

Would there be any performance gain from decking the head .050 with the stock camshaft? I am also thinking about getting the block bored .030 over since I'm replacing the pistons anyway with stock...

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

For now I am looking to keep the engine N/A. I do have 2 sets of heads and one I am wanting to deck down as far as I can to raise the compression, but not so far that I need race gas. I will save the...

Re: 2.3l Stroker build for 96 Ranger

Yeah, I'm aware of the prices from those kinds of places. I suppose I should outline better what I'm trying to achieve. I am basically replacing the 2.3 that is in the truck with a 2.5. This is one...
