That would be the thing to do. A vacuum test, that is. Right now I am going by sound. I guess if there was a vacuum leak I assume I'd hear a big sucking sound. Will follow up on that more diligently...

I'm pretty sure it's the correct IAC unit I replaced. I had a similar problems about 5 years ago and replaced it then; it fixed the problem.
As to leaks in my exhaust, I don't see any of that....

High Idle problems
96 Ford Ranger 6cyl 3.0 w/ 117,000 miles. Started to idle high at 2000 to 3000. Sometimes it comes down to normal, sometimes not. Noticed I could literary take my foot of the gas pedal when doing 40...
