Warm it up longer after the EGR tube gets fixed. Also if its a SOHC in a 96 it is not the original engine.

I use a 3lb hammer to remove mine, much easier than the press, use that to put them in.
Make sure the retaining clip is off, it can make it hard to press or pound out, did that once on a brain...

Not true. Look at manufacturer data sheets. Castrol high mileage is 1cSt more viscous than valvoline max life full synthetic.
Heck, the GTX high mileage 5w30 is thicker at low temp and operating...
