Re: Am i too old?

I'm 50 and driving a 2011 XLT 4X4 and a 2019 STX FX4. If it does the job you need it to do and you can get in and out of it without a problem, you aren't too old.

Re: cat converters

If the setup is the same as on my 2011 4.0, the left and right cats are not the same. There will be bungs in the plumbing for the sensors. Make sure they are California compliant, very important...

Re: Is there no single Mercon V full synthetic?

I haven't seen any. Only aftermarket brands that say it's compatible. Like Amsoil and Royal Purple as examples. I think I used Mobil 1 in my transmission last time I changed it but it's a manual,...

Re: Need to Cut Out Wheel Humps in Bed

If you are sure that the tires won't make it up high enough to hit the cut outs, go for it. Just to be sure, I would try to exercise the suspension to verify that before you reach the point of no...

Re: Parked Next to New Ranger XLT

They are doing a remodel real soon on the Ranger using the chassis they developed for the upcoming Bronco. Supposedly, the current frame couldn't support anything bigger than the 2.3 Ecoboost. I...

Re: Front wheel Spacers

I'll echo the other two. Spacers are a bad idea. Do it right the first time or don't do it.

Re: impact gun for suspension work

I don't know the torque range but an impact gun with a 3/4" anvil tends to do the job most of the time. You might want to look at borrowing an acetylene torch as well for heating stubborn fasteners...

Re: Catalytic converter simulator

If I remember correctly, a stand off fitting that pulls the sensor out of the exhaust stream does the trick but you have to have a bung in the exhaust pipe for that to work. I know they used to be...

Re: Help! Wanting to buy a Ranger

Most of the four cylinder Rangers are pretty rock solid. The V-6 models all have their little quirks. So, it depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a 4X4, you are pretty much...

Re: Hows your GAS MILEAGE on ur truck? Let me know here.

I average about 18.5 on the 2011. That will change with the bigger tires and the windshield visor. The 2019 is getting about 22 with the winter tires on. When it was driven down to Florida with...

Re: Parked Next to New Ranger XLT

Finding one in mid size that is true 4X4 and body on frame is very rare. The 4Runner is the only one I can think of off hand. Everything else is AWD and unit body. For that reason, I bought the...

Re: '08 Ranger brakes suddenly locking up?

I would look at your parking brake cables. With the rain and then the freeze, I bet they are frozen solid. I had that on my '98. the fix was to replace the rear cables. Over time the seals that...

Re: Advice on thrown rod

I don't disagree. I went the factory manual route but a lot of people balk at the price for one. I get factory manual for everything I work on when I can. Unfortunately, a lot manuals are digital...

Re: Advice on thrown rod

Sorry, no videos that I know of and I don't make any. You could search to see if there is anything out there for your engine. fordtechmakuloco on youtube might have what you need.

The front of...

Re: Advice on thrown rod

You could go the same route I chose when I had my 1998. I got a used engine from a scrap yard with low mileage on it for about $300. Swapped the old engine for the new one and drove it. The...

Re: Suggestions for Snow Tires

I've used different brands over the years and they all seem to be about the same. Kelly, Cooper, and Mastercraft. They are generally going to be better than an all season or an all terrain tire. ...

Re: First post

Dome light issues are normally due to an issue with the switch in the latch that is in the door. Hitting it with WD-40 usually helps.

Re: Stock Tire Size 265/75-15

Not disputing any of what you say. Being the OP is an unknown, I’m not sure what angle they are going after.

The tire size he has now is fine. The selection is a bit limited though.

Re: Stock Tire Size 265/75-15

Normally, people go with 30" or 31" tires when choosing to go that big. As far as how common, I'm not sure what you are asking. If for tire availability, 1010 tire offers 13 different models and...

Re: '98 Ranger won't start HELP?

We ran across something like this at work once. There is a reset button in the passenger foot well that we had to push to reset. I think it was behind the kick panel. It might be something to look...

Re: Rear Fender Rust Repair

Bird76mojo covered the rust issues. As far as behind the wheel wells, that looks like someone fiberglassed back there. If the metal looks solid inside, it could have been an attempt at protecting...

Bigger Tires - Adjust Speedometer?

In 2011, that was an option. Mine came with 235/75R15 off the dealer lot. The Sport model came with 255/70R15 stock. I can’t speak for 2009.

In any case, the speed settings seem to be set for...

Re: Bigger Tires - Adjust Speedometer?

Vehicle manufacturers are allowed a certain amount of inaccuracy in what the speedometer reads and tend to err on the reading fast side as a result. If you punch the numbers in on the 16” tires the...
