One last post to declare success! I opted to by a new part from Ford, $36. The burn was the O ring, which was $9. The new part had significant welding around the Y that branched off to the heater....

I tested some coolant drained from the radiator that I had saved in a pan and it tested as good down to -10* :)

I have a visual on the leak and it looks like it's the water pump pipe.

Thanks for the reply.
I can see where the leak is coming from, right above where the bottom hose connects. I just can't tell whether it is part of the radiator or some other manifold leading into...

We just went through a pretty rough patch of below freezing weather here in the PNW and after the thaw I noticed that my 1996 2.3 was leaking coolant from what appeared...
