Re: Excessive oil in intake ports

Turns out the head was cracked on No. 4 cylinder. The truck had fouled two plugs over the past two years at least. When I pulled the head off it looked wet from the coolant leaking into the...

Re: Excessive oil in intake ports

Thank you for your response. The truck has approx. 160k miles, 10k of which I have put on it. I change my oil at around 3000 miles. This truck does NOT get any hard miles on it ever.
What puzzled me...

Excessive oil in intake ports

My 96 4.0 developed a lead on the back side of the pass. head. I thought it might have been either a freeze plug or a head gasket leaking. Turns out it was the intake gasket. When I pulled the intake...

Re: Fuel tank problems

No Good! They said if it had fallen on the barn, they would pay for it - insured structure. If it ain't listed - State Farm don't pay!

Re: Fuel tank problems

That sounds like it! Just one more thing to work on. Last week a storm came through here. After the storm passed by, I went outside to see how much leaves and limb trash came off the trees that I...

Re: Fuel tank problems

I live in the South so rust is not usually an issue on most of our cars. The truck is a 96, but looks almost new underneath. If anything, I'm suspecting a dry rot or just old age problem on an...

I'm having a problem with fuel leakage on my 96 Ranger XLT w/4.0 liter engine that started about a week ago. There is some fuel leakage from the tank down onto the frame and a heavy smell of raw...

Re: 4.0 engine problems?

Hey Guys - Job is done. The truck runs great (knock on wood). I got to the plugs from up top, not as much trouble as I thought. My trick is to use a stubby ratchet. The biggest problem was to get the...

Re: 4.0 engine problems?

I read the "how to" on changing the plugs. I've probably changed over 500 sets of plugs but WTH. It was recommended on the pass. side to remove the splash panel. I took the wheel off and looks like...

Re: 4.0 engine problems?

OK guys, we're on track. I pulled the plugs on the driver's side and number one was wet. So, I'm assuming it's gas fouled. The plugs look like they were firing good, but they are old from appearance....

Re: 4.0 engine problems?

If I had a scanner available, the first thing I would do is check the codes. If I got nothing there, the next thing I would do is a visual check for vacuum leak, plug wire off, etc. The next thing I...

Re: 4.0 engine problems?

OK - Sounds very logical. I'll do the visual inspection first. I have a couple of other questions. I am building a 68 Barracuda with a 2001 5.2liter Ram engine with OBDII PCM. The Ranger is also...

Re: 4.0 engine problems?

Thanks - Soooooo, a cylinder misfire could be a plug misfiring or a plug wire breaking down or some type of ignition problem? As I said, it was previously making a noise that sounded like a backfire...
