only thing a "jump" does is supply voltage and current your battery should be supplying already. As you were previous told check/charge the battery or substitute/replace with a known good one....

yes that switch is only on manuals. Automatics use the range sensor switch on the side of the trans.

^^^ the two parts rotating when the clutch is disengaged (AKA down) at a standstill in gear are release bearing and pilot bearing..check the pilot bearing..

The crankshaft, the crankshaft sprocket and the pulley are fitted together by friction, with diamond washers between the flange faces on each part....

i didn't say self adjusting I said self equalizing. which means if one set of shoes is 1/16 away from the drum and the other wheel is 1/8 away the brakes will apply evenly.

that's not correct. ..drum brakes are what is called self equalizing. If you apply this logic parts such as adjusters, shoes, drums would need to be sold in matched sets.

^^ X2 normal operation it is not a 100% air tight seal. compression can and WILL leak out of the cylinder when stopped. OP park nose facing down hill and try the parking brake see if it holds better.

that sounds as if the shoes were out of adjustment. ok I have a few questions. are you saying it gets worse after you drive it for a while? you are aware the adjusters are different side to side...

just a thought couldn't you compare the old cables to the new ones an inch and a half is a lot. I really don't think you could use the wrong ones and have then connect anywhere close to correct.
