I get about 25MPG and it has 218,000 miles on it. 85% highway driving.
Removed the airdam, did the ignition coil mod, new wires, plugs, o2 sensor, cleaned maf & air temp sensor and using 87...

yeah, everything I have read says that ford didn't really put much effort into a quiet pump on these guys. It's fine.

Re: Cold Temp Misfire
My ONLY other guess is the oxygen sensor. I have seen it go bad and then throw bad readings erratically causing the computer to mix improperly and suddenly.
I know it seems random but I've never...

Re: 2.3L into 4*4??
the 4x4 2.3L are as rare as Hen's teeth. (at least in my neck of the woods).
Be warned, I also looked into parts and they are hard to come by and expensive.

Re: my 2.3 5 speed turbo ranger build
This might be treason but at the price point of turbo vs electric I would probably go electric for both the challenge and economics.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of turbo but around here...

Re: Wobble / choke / something happening in 5th gear
I don't think your wires are the issue. Make sure that they are sired nicely and not overlaying each other. If they are, they can arc across each other.
I'll run down what I did to my truck (any...

Re: Air leak???
if you're going from zero to 3/4 throttle in a flash, there is going to definately be some rushing air into the engine. I think you're fine.

Re: Wobble / choke / something happening in 5th gear
I never had a misfire code show up but the feeling was very distinct. I'm not too sure if the 1992's had knock sensors for that matter.
What have you done to the truck so far? Maybe i can help?

Re: Cold Temp Misfire
I think there really should be one at in the air filter box. It's either a air temp sensor or air pressure sensor.
So you're saying that thre is NO OTHER time that it misses?
Can you define...

Re: Cold Temp Misfire
air temp sensor in the bottom of your air box might be my best guess.
Or mass airflow sensor.
have you tried cleaning either then reseting the PCM?

I have hunted down the problem.
It appears that I have had the wrong firing order for the last 6 months.
I checked here what it should be and compared to the haynes manual. It appears Haynes...

I just wanted to follow up.
It turned out that my wires were all wrong. The haynes manual was completely off base. Thankfully I double checked with the numbers here I am now SUPER smooth.

Re: 96 2.3 liter manual trans., hard starting sometimes.
You can do seafoam but I used water.
These fords are notorious for carbon build up, killing HP and MPG.
(Note, using this method may plug your cat up. I don't have one, so I was fine)

I have now noticed it only seems to happen once the engine is warm (10-15mins of driving)
I have done the plugs...
