Re: Best brand of Coil Pack, Wires & Plugs for 3.0

I put NGK wires on my 98 V6 a little over a year ago. I was very impressed with the quality and fit. Seem top be equal to OEM. I just put Bosh on my Silverado and I don't have confidence in the...

Re: M5OD whine in 4th and 2nd

I guess it could be the pilot but I had it and the clutch repalced about 10K mikes ago and it made the same noise before and after when it was cold. It warmed up to 80 degrees today and after five...

Bought my 98 with 69K and it has pinged for over 10years and 110K miles. Tried everything including autolite plugs, wires, 180 thermostat, fuel filter and cleaning MAF. Read the TSB about a coil...

Re: Gas mileage, help!

Re: 98 3.0 with p0306 code cylinder 6 missfire

When I put in the sycro I had the heads off not thinking about a compression and exhaust stroke. I was thinking #1 piston at the top and timing marks. I had a 50/50 chance to get it right and lost...

Re: 98 3.0 with p0306 code cylinder 6 missfire

That would be me :( Now that I think about it, just because I had #1 at TDC with the heads off and timing marks showing doesn't mean it was the compression stroke  He did mention it was...

Re: 98 3.0 with p0306 code cylinder 6 missfire

UPDATE: Incase anyone has this issue in the future, I hate reading threads that suddenly stop without an ending. I took the truck up to a chain called City Garage and the manager said they had a...

Re: What are common problems with these Engines ?

I just did head gaskets on my 98 with 184K. It was very time consuming but kind of fun since I didin't have anything to lose and a truck to gain. Don't expect to do it over a weekend. Like...

Re: 98 3.0 with p0306 code cylinder 6 missfire

I have not tested the coil other than holding the wire about an inch away and seeing the spark jump as well as repalcing it with another used motorcraft coil with no difference. I also placed a...

Re: 98 3.0 with p0306 code cylinder 6 missfire

Ok I went by O'reilly tonight and this is what the scanner shows. The #5 injector I replaced had a broken tip and I was so sure that was my issue. The new motorcraft injector tested out at 15.1...

Re: 98 3.0 with p0306 code cylinder 6 missfire

Thanks Sha8zen, I was trying to determine where to go from here. I did repalce the syncro when I had the heads reworked. I did it without the tool but the truck cranks up fine and the miss was...

Re: 98 3.0 with p0306 code cylinder 6 missfire

Re: ranger to taurus swap

It is my understanding you have to use Ranger head gaskets since the coolant flow is different than the Taurus. This is not a bad idea anyway since these motors have a rep for blowing head gaskets. ...

Re: p1071 and p1074

Make sure it's not your cam syncronizer at the back of the motor. This could cause you to lose oil pressure.

Re: Good cylinder heads

I wouild recomend pre 2001 heads with 8mm valve stems. The later model heads with 7mm stems seem to have a lot more problems. There is even a TSB issued by ford for 04-03 rangers.
