Re: searching for vac leak....what is this???
Maybe you're aware of this but you're also missing a vacuum plug on your throttle body. That would definitely cause some unmetered air issues.

Re: Knocking only in 4th and 5th gear?
I've bumped it up to 91 and it doesn't change anything. What I don't understand is why the motor sounds fine through the entire powerband on the lower gears but not in 4th or 5th. I replaced the...

Knocking only in 4th and 5th gear?
I've been having a knock issue for awhile and it's driving me nuts. It only happens when the engine is warm and i give it light throttle in 4th or 5th gear. If I stomp on it it goes away. I have...

Re: 2.5L Trouble Code 302, Intake Bolts
Keep checking the junk yard OR take a matching intake bolt and find the specs. Go to the hardware store and find a nut that will fit it, this will give you pitch and thread count. After that it's a...

Re: HELP! Rough idle/high rpms when stopping
It sounds like you have a gasket leak that goes away once the engine warms up (and metal parts expand). I'd tear it apart and replace all gaskets from the heads up. It's a PIA, but if you do it...

I had the same problem. The answer: heat. I got by with a small propane torch, but if its really on there you may want to try an oxy-acetylene torch.

Re: Engine Cuts Off at Idle
Take it to another parts store. I've not heard of the check engine light staying on without storing a code. My money is on a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum connections and make sure nothing is...

Re: 96 ranger idleing problem
Make SURE you didn't overtorque the intake gaskets, especially the lower one. The lower gasket is paper and the other one has a metal layer making it stronger. I had the same problem and came to...

Re: 2.3L blown head gasket
Check the 6 cylinder forums, but it sounds like the head gasket. It shouldn't be that bad if you do your research and use a little common sense. It is well worth your time to do it yourself vs....

I think the throttle linkage is all mechanical. Is your truck throwing any codes?

Re: 4 cyl. shaky idle
I'm guessing here, but it sounds like you have a leaky gasket somewhere in the intake. The way you describe it sounds to me like a cold gasket leaking air until the block warms up, which warms the...

Re: Impossiple Throttle Position Sensor removal
Also, before you remove it MAKE SURE that it needs to be replaced. Have you back probed the tps to measure resistance? I think it should be around 1 volt at idle and 5 for WOT.

P1506 (IAC overspeed error) which points to a bad IAC valve or a vac leak. IAC has been replaced, so for the 1000th time, I will check for vac leaks.

Thanks Luc. Seafoam is one thing I haven't tried yet...I guess if I've been running on a bum O2 sensor and it's been running rich it could be dirty by now. Worth a shot I guess.

Make sure to check the head or have it checked by a mechanic. Mine had tiny cracks between the valves in a few cylinders. Wouldn't hurt to get a valve job and have it resurfaced while you've got it...

I'm guessing cracked head/blown head gasket. No bueno. A new (to you) head will be no more than $300. If it's only the gasket you can buy the short block gasket kit for less than $50.
