Re: Won't run in the heat

Don't know if this can help, but the first thought I had was "vapor lock" in the fuel delivery system somewhere, since the symptons seem to be triggered by heat.

Second thought was that there may...

Re: Ranger Vs Titan

Might be interesting if you have $$$ bet on it.

Your truck, do what you want.

Re: question about the ac/ heat blower motor

Blower motor resistor - seems to be burnt out on those settings that don't work.

Re: Beware the dangers of running on empty

Not disputing that . . .

Just a couple of anecdotes about why I now try to fill at about 1/2 tank - I figure I'll use up the gas eventually, and I'd rather fill up whenever possible at my...

Re: Beware the dangers of running on empty

Best to keep the tank full . . .

Story #1:
Years ago, driving on an interstate, I thought it would be "interesting" to see how far I could go on a tank of gas.

When the low fuel light came on,...

Re: wheel bearing w/ speed sensor

Just be sure to torque the caliper bolts and hub nut to spec when you replace them - pretty critical.

Caliper mounting bolts: 1997 and earlier 38 -48 ft/lbs; 1998 and later 21 -26 ft/lbs

Re: Corroded License Plate Light

If, by "plug" you mean the socket where the bulb plugs in, well, you can get a replacement and just splice it in.

Why would you think that "it looks like the entire wiring harness needs to be...

Re: Alternate spare location

And that's fine . . . not disputing that; just won't get as "dirty" as when dealing with a spare that's dirtier than need be . . .

And as I've stated, dropping and cleaning everything up just...

Re: Alternate spare location

On current generation Rangers, there is a winch and cable arrangement to raise/lower the spare tire - can't speak with certainty about your generation - maybe someone can chime in, or perhaps it's an...

Re: Alternate spare location

Impractical?

I wouldn't say so; clean = easier to work with; and I can almost guarantee that if your spare has never been lowered, that it will be quite a bit dirtier than any tire that you have...

Re: Alternate spare location

I just re-read this and realize I may have mis-interpreted your question; if you are asking how to lower the spare if the carrier is already pooched, then my best guess is that you will probably have...

Re: Alternate spare location

Some WD-40 to get rid of moisture; then I usually just lube it up with a lithium grease or a product called Fluid Film which also fights rust/corrosion.

All that crud that accumulates attracts...

Re: Alternate spare location

Moving the spare to the bed, if you can find the proper mounting hardware, does mean you'll have better access, and the spare won't get as dirty, but you will lose bed space.

If it's just a matter...

Re: 2006 ranger 4.0 tranny fluid change

A lot of experienced mechanics don't torque the bolts - they develop a "feel" for the right amount of pressure - so I suppose it isn't absolutely necessary.

Still, a torque wrench is the only way...

Re: 2006 ranger 4.0 tranny fluid change

Not too bad at all if you have a hoist and can easily get to all the bolts . . .

Doable with the truck on jacks, but potentially messy - the ATF more than fills the pan, so when you drop the pan,...

Re: Truck stalls when coming to a stop.

Looks pretty good for $1500 - even with what you've put in, and the issues you've got with it, still seems a good deal.

Any further news on your (seems like) tranny problem?

Re: What are some good things to include in a "roadside emergency" kit?

Flat tire repair kit - just some plugs and a reamer and plug insertion tool and small compressor . . .

12 volt plug-in emergency light with flasher, and spot/searchlight . . .

Various lengths...

Re: My windshield wipers hate me.

Try the relay first - easy to replace - I had the same thing happen and it was the relay.

If you can't find one at a parts store, just pull a few from virtually any Ford that you find at the JY -...

THIS is exactly what my truck did about 1 year and ten months into ownership @ ~44,000 km (about 27,000 miles).

As the vehicle was still under warranty, I took it in to the dealer and let them...

Re: Starting Issue, Kind of Weird

Try replacing the fuel pump relay before you go on to the more expensive items - located in the underhood power distribution box.

I had an intermittent "no start" situation that in many respects...

Re: vibration coming from steering column

If I were you, I would start looking at where the sound is coming from - if you can't feel it through the steering wheel, then maybe it is just something in the column that is vibrating/rubbing at a...

Re: Are Ford Rangers overpriced in your opinion?

Bottom line is "overpriced" or not is basically a matter of opinion.

General concensus is that MSRP is just a guideline - manufacturer's asking price (just like what a seller is "asking" for their...
