I tried to run it with the cover popped and the truck sputtered then died at idle... Put the cap back on with the filter and started the truck back up. Scared me for a minute, I'll admit it!

Care to elaborate? I thought the same thing at first, but I've got out an pushed down on that sucker with all I'm worth and it still hums something fierce.

Humming coming from air filter
I have a really loud humming noise resonates from my air filter housing. I'm thinking its the IAC valve, based on what I've read on here.
I recharged my k&n filter thinking it would remedy the issue...

The truck is a 98 4.0v6 ranger 4x4...
I took my truck out hunting this weekend. I had to put it in to 4x4, both high and low, at various times thought the weekend. There where no problems, however...
