Re: Hard Starting Again

Well, just from googling and reading here I think I understand that the fuel line, from tank to rail/injectors, is pretty much supposed to be under pressure all the time. If when the engine is...

Re: Hard Starting Again

No Harbor Freight anywhere near us, but in any event, I looked under the hood hoping to see an easily accessible Schraeder valve. No such luck; umpteen plastic covers and shrouds and the like all...

Re: Hard Starting Again

I wouldn't know what I was doing, will leave this one to the pros. Appreciate all the hints on WHAT to have them check, though. Being an informed customer is always a good thing.

Re: Hard Starting Again

True dat. Will find somebody locally who has the necessary test kit and see what the situation is. Autozone sells the kit, but for $200!

Re: Hard Starting Again

Back at our summer digs, driving the 2002 Ranger again, had a new fuel filter put in, hard starting problem does NOT appear to have been solved. Any suggestions on what to look at next? Since it...

Re: Hard Starting Again

Is there some gadget to check that pressure, and if yes, what should it be in PSI or whatever measurement is applicable? If not, easiest is probably to just replace the filter, at 132k miles it's...

Hard Starting Again

Tried searching but got a zillion hits that were not relevant, so will start from scratch.

2002 Ranger, 2.3/manual trans/air. Started fine on first crank until recently, now requires several...

Re: Have I Been Scammed? (Radiator)

OK, I feel good about it all now, so good that I'll ignore the snide cheap shot. Thanks to all who replied in a civil manner.

Have I Been Scammed? (Radiator)

2002 Ranger with 2.3 engine/stick shift. Overheated recently, pulled into first garage I came to, they said radiator leak and installed a new radiator (supposedly). On the way home, stopped at most...

Re: Air Conditioner -- General Info

Well, I paid about $35 for a recharge kit at AutoZone, and it was a very simple process, although in my case it didn't make any difference. I'd certainly consider trying that if I were in your...

Re: Air Conditioner -- General Info

Mistaken identity -- I haven't been to Advanced Auto, don't even think there is one in our town. But I will observe that in my experience, if one makes the rounds of auto parts stores and asks the...

Re: Air Conditioner -- General Info

Agree. Just simple "I can almost change a faucet washer" logic tells me that something in the A/C system that's supposed to compress the freon, or something, isn't working as well as it did when...

Re: Air Conditioner -- General Info

Tons of detailed info there, makes my head hurt to read it all, but I'm hoping there's a short simple answer to my central question: If my 2002 Ranger A/C was blowing cold within 2-3 minutes when...

Air Conditioner -- General Info

The A/C on my 2002 Ranger (2.3 engine) still blows very cold after 130k miles, to my surprise and pleasure -- never had to do anything to it. But I noticed it takes longer to get really cold, maybe...

Re: Resurrection?

Not me. I had an F350 crewcab dually for a couple years, that got me over the big truck thing. Needed it to haul an RV around, but that part of my life is now history. Gas guzzler, EVERYTHING of a...

Re: Resurrection?

Hey, after this thread and additional research I sadly accept the fact that nobody but Toyota is building a <=200" pickup. Hope they don't give it up too.

Arrived at our summer place yesterday,...

Re: Resurrection?

Rats, the T6 is in fact sold in Mexico, but only in extended cab versions, about 217". So much for that. (And then there's the 25% import tax and the safety standards issues ....)

Re: Resurrection?

AHA!! So my rumors are vindicated. Take THAT, all you skeptics. But Brazil's quite a trip to pick one up. Ballpark, what are they selling them for? And is it standard cab, or a stretch model? ...

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor/Where, How?

My Tucson Ranger is at about 58,000 now. Bought it used at 15,000, got a solid 24 mpg all the way to about 50,000, started dropping, now steady around 20 mpg. XLT model, 2.3 engine with automatic....

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor/Where, How?

Thanks for that -- it agrees pretty well with what I saw this morning -- no spikes or dropouts, just smooth up and down. So the good news may be that I don't need a $150 sensor after all. Just...

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor/Where, How?

So, the latest from wire testing with voltmeter is, good 12v in, good ground out, but the MAF signal showed 0.9v at dead idle and only went up to around 2v or so when I revved up to around 4000 rpm. ...

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor/Where, How?

Well, after the initial $350 or so for the useless fuel system/sparkplug stuff, I haven't yet spent anything -- even had a can of the CRC cleaner stuff already sitting on the garage shelf.

I'm...

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor/Where, How?

Well, they sell MAFs they are calling rebuilt, or re-manufactured, or whatever. Have to agree I can't imagine what they could possibly do to rebuild one, but that's what I'm reading on line.

Re: Mass Air Flow Sensor/Where, How?

RangerSchool had it right, around 30-40 miles the emissions idiot light came back on. So I'm now thinking buy a $10 PCV valve and either put it in myself, or find somebody who will do so for small...
