Re: I'm no longer a Ranger owner.
I still miss the old Ranger sometimes, but I love my Jeep more than any other vehicle I've ever had.

Re: New engine 2000 3.0
My mileage went up when I put my crate engine in, but the old engine had two burnt exhaust valves that were causing the cylinders to misfire, so my mileage (and power) were terrible before the swap....

I'm no longer a Ranger owner.
I bought my beloved 2000 Ranger Extended Cab 4x4 Off Road in July 2002 with 16,000 miles on it.
About a month ago, I bought a 2011 Jeep Wrangler.
A few days ago, I let the old Ranger go to a...

Re: 3.0 engine swap
You can reach the top bolts on the bell housing if you go in from the engine compartment. It's tight, but it's doable.
As for what has to come off...
All the wiring, all the plumbing, vacuum...

I sold it.
Part of me is sad, but I know that after 14 years and over 200,000 miles and many bloody knuckles....it was time.
This is the first time since I got my drivers license that I...

Re: junkyard year swaps
I think you're right, but I'm not sure if an extended cab door and rear window would be compatible with a single cab.
I'm fairly certain that 98+ single cab would work for both.
For some...

I'm pretty sure you should be reading about 14.5 volts with the engine running.

Re: Looking at 98 Ranger V6 4WD issues?
The vacuum driven hubs are know to give folks problems as well.
Also, check for rust, especially around the rear spring hangers and shackles.

Re: Does your ranger have an accessory position
Yep. I, too, thought that you had to pull the lever, but I tested it on my truck yesterday sure enough, you only have to pull the lever to get from the on position to the lock position. Not to go...

It's not terrible if you have the right tools and an engine hoist.
Let me try to find the thread where I documented my engine swap.

Re: Does your ranger have an accessory position
Mine has the accessory position one click down from lock.
I believe you have to pull the lever like you're going to remove the key to get it back into the accessory position.

The blocks should be the same, but the heads have differently shaped combustion chambers, I'm pretty sure.
When I did my swap, I got an ATK long block for $1899. 3 year, unlimited mileage...

Re: Need/want Ford Ranger
As for the clutch problem, $250 will get you a new master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch plate, and pressure plate.
Yeah, it's a bear of a job, but if you can do the work yourself, it'll save...

Re: Guess who gets to replace their slave cylinder!
Funny story about my dad.
When the clutch went out on my 1993 Explorer, he said "get it here and we'll replace it."
I got it there, and we replaced it. I also learned many new curse words (and...

And I think the axle from anything late 90s to late 2000s should bolt right up. I don't know what year they changed to disc brakes, but everything before that back to at least 98 or so should work....

Re: First time working on a truck
While I agree that a 30 piece or 100 piece set would get you most of what you need, it never fails that there's always ONE FREAKING THING that you need that you don't have.

I bought my 2000 Ranger XLT 4x4 Off-Road for...
