Video with the noise:

About 6 months to a year ago I rebuilt my transmission. The noise did not exist before, or even shortly after,...

Clean your air filter, could be your starter motor or ignition switch I suppose.

Re: Whats your trucks milage?

145,000 miles on the Ranger I just bought, but the owners didn't take care of it. Left it in water (rusted to hell frame/trans/exhaust/low engine block), didn't shift well. Am rebuilding the...

Re: Terrible MPG's and no "engine light"...HELP

Could be very early stage torque converter or flywheel failure, not transferring engine power to the transmission efficiently (if it's an automatic transmission).

Can't find a 5R55E torque converter.

Does anyone know anything about 5R55E torque converters? I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 6-Cyl 4.0L 5-Speed Automatic Trans. and I cannot find a torque converter for the transmission.

I know there are...

Re: Grinding noise when truck in motion

I wouldn't ignore it. It could be something wrong with your transmission, like a going-bad torque converter. It's good to catch stuff like that early so it doesn't blow up and take your transmission...

Re: Tranny problems

From what I understand, some vehicles are designed to turn the AC on with the heater, which can cause your RPM's to jump and then go down. My Ranger XLT 4x4 (2000) AT does this too.

Re: Occasional Loud rattle at idle, how do i rule out starter?

It's more likely to be your torque converter. Shift into each gear and see if you hear any distinct noise while it shifts into gear such as a tick, rattle, or grinding noise.

Also, sound carries,...

Re: Ticking in Park and Neutral.

I haven't got the transmission out yet, everything is rusted together severely and the exhaust had to be cut. It looks like it was left in a waterhole or something for a few days from the look of all...

Re: Ticking in Park and Neutral.

The oil level is proper (both engine oil and transmission fluid). I replaced the oil and oil filter as soon as I got it. 5QT of SAE 5W-30 with a new filter, but like I said earlier the oil pressure...

Re: Ticking in Park and Neutral.

Okay. I think I have enough information to provide for some actual answers. Today, when shifting from Park to Drive, it didn't shift. When I tried to accelerate, it was stuck in Park, then as the...

Re: Ticking in Park and Neutral.

Spent some time today checking things. Checked the whole truck as much as I could for cracks or damage, and found none. I did find a coolant leak due to a bad radiator cap, so I replaced that.

I...

Re: Ticking in Park and Neutral.

The truck was driven out of state a lot which is where all the miles come from, and was driven offroad, but nothing seriously requiring 4WD. It was sold as "has no known issues", which when I asked...

Re: Ticking in Park and Neutral.

I just bought the truck a couple of days ago, so I haven't had the chance to spend much time with it.

The noise is definitely not normal, and should not be ignored. I don't want to end up with...

Ticking in Park and Neutral.

I recently purchased a 2000 Ford Ranger 4WD 4.0L V6, but it has some issues. These are the first things I did when I bought it, so they can be ruled out immediately.

- Changed the oil
- Changed...
