Thanks I worked on the 401 code before- replaced the dpfs sensor and it wasn't the problem- pulled the egr and cleaned it. still not the problem i am gonna pull the throttle body tomorrow :(

I flushed the radiator and block tonight and put in a new thermostat so far so good i bought a OBD II and pulled a PO 401 out of the computer, next project i guess.

I just traded in my 1987 ford ranger (2 wd) 2.3 with 155k for a 2000 ranger ext cab 4x4 with 125k they were asking 6900.00 I got it for $6000.00 cash with my 1987 did i do ok or did i get screwed?

the starter was toast the problem was a ignition control module.

I think the starter is toast, I checked the cables and they are both in good shape, If i were to guess i think the timing belt is stripped? I gotta find someone who is willing to pull me to a garage...

I started for 2 seconds then and now it turns over like the battery is drained (the battery is @ 12.70) what is going on?

I have been reading thread after thread and can't find a similar problem so here i go. I have a 87 ranger 2.3 I was having clutch issues but now i have a "no start" problem. It was running fine...

Now the starter went out (murphys law) it is running like crap anyhow it idles fine but it bucks and misses upon accel? who knows

Well here is an update. I dropped the transmission fluid and turns out that somebody put differential oil in there (90 weight) i put Mercon V in it and it seems to shift much better.

Thanks for the reply!! The mechinic is old school and said that it was bench bled and bled with a pressure pump so it can't be that, but according to him the old MC was broke and there wasn't any...

BTW they said that they bled the system with a pump but i am not convinced that it is bled out...

Just got my truck out of the shop today, Here is what the invoice states Replace PCV
Hesitation when cold runs rich
stalls at times check timing
check fuel pressure
regulator, OK clean idle air...
