Re: New to FRF. Need opinions on this truck...

My 2004 has a carpet with the plastic still on it from the factory. My seat belts are attached to the rear doors. When they are open the belts stay with em. Other wise you would have belts hanging...

Re: 2002 Ford Ranger V-6 Won't start

You didn't say what engine. I had a 2.9 that acted like that. It was the module mounted on the distributor. The unit was $100.00 back then and took just a few minutes to change out, OR it could be...

Re: Could a Ranger tow the Endeavor?

[QUOTE=02RangerFX4;1300832]Why would they film it in reverse?

Why does the media call a front end loader a bulldozer? For them excavators are bulldozers too, if it's...

Engine Lopes at Higher RPM

When sitting still at idle and then increasing RPM's the engine starts to Lope. No Engine light on dash. No trouble code w/Ultraguage. I suspect fuel filter or possible vac leak. Truck appears to run...

Re: Could a Ranger tow the Endeavor?

Your 100% right. I operated a locomotive pushing 3 30cu.yard concrete mixer rail cars in a tunnel job, this up a 1/2% grade, (6" per 100'). That's 3.5 mixer trucks per car or 10.5 trucks. Most people...

Re: Which OBD2 Scanner do you recommend?

Not sure about blue tooth. I just bought an Ultra Guage. cleaned the MAF and changed out the air cleaner. It generated a pending trouble code. I unpluged the MAF sensor and that did it. For $80.00 I...

Re: A few oil questions

If the factory uses break in oil it's not a good idea to use synthetic for the first 15000 miles. Rings don't seat properly. After that go for it, you wont be sorry. If you have an older truck that...

Re: Will I be able to start in -50 degrees?

I'm sure some guy's will think I'm a broken record but I'll say it again. Start using 5-W20 or 5-w30, fully synthetic oil. It costs a bit more but you don't have to change it as often, say @ 7000 mi....

Re: 3.0 or 4.0 help?

I''ve had the 4 cyl. the 2.9 and two 4.0 Push rod and OVH.
The 4 cylinder wore it's valve guides out in 48,000.
The 6 cyl. 2.9 was an over square engine, it's bore was bigger than it's stroke. It...

Re: 1986 Ranger step side

I tried a C-10 before buying my new 91 Ranger. It was fairly peppy but dragged on hills. When I got back to the dealer the sales guy was waiting, pulled into a spot and sat for a minute looking at...

Re: Freezing Weather Tips...

It doesn't take rocket sience. If the starter kicks in hard and the motor spins fast when the weather is below freezing but not below 0 then starts well it's most likely not your starter. If your...

Re: how to break in

Had 4 new Rangers so far. In general if you drive it too easy, like a dog, you end up with a dog! Drive normal and when your on the highway vary the speed. Don't be afraid to push it up speed wise...

Re: Freezing Weather Tips...

Do yourself a favor! Plug in some Mobile 1 motor oil. If your weather goes below 0 a lot just use 5w-30. I use 10w-40 and my truck started on about the 3rd rev., in -5 (minus 5) degree weather. I...

Re: Best way to improve fuel milage

What about using a Murphy Diesel. I'm joking of course. They were used in tug boats and certain heavy equipment applications. They had a gas pony engine to start the diesel. I was operating a...

Re: 3.5 Eco Boost swap?

Your right I looked at the papers I still had. It was a 4.6, according to what I read on Fords site it's more or less a tossup between 6.2 and eco mileage?

Re: 3.5 Eco Boost swap?

The 6.2 has been around for a long time. Maybe not in pickups, don't know. The Lincoln Towncar and heavy trucks have had it for ages. Mine was a SOHC 6.2 ltr. V8.

Re: Mobil 1 vs Castrol Edge

It wont actually hurt it. The diesel oils like series 3 in my post above do hold impurities in suspension. The result is less sluge/carbon build up.

Re: 3.5 Eco Boost swap?

Yes I did. In my 1997 Lincoln Towncar. To be honest it handled that heavy bitch real well. Any of the Ford Modular engines were good engines. Just got rid of the Lincoln, it rusted out so bad under...

Re: Mobil 1 vs Castrol Edge

Rotella is used by a lot of truckers. Not sure about Rotella T if it's a synthetic or not. Years ago Caterpillar was one of the first to use turbo charged engines. They ran into a problem with oil...

Re: Block heater!

I doubt if Ohio gets colder than northern Main, like I'm talking -30 to -40.
Our log skidders would not start without block heaters. Then they came out with Mobile 1 fully synthetic oil. Mobile let...

Re: What oil to use, when to change?

When Mobile 1 first came out and we were running log skidders and Cat D-8 bulldozers with 48 quart sumps in -30 degree weather up in Maine we had to use crankcase heaters or they would not start. You...

Re: ABS Sensor

Don't matter. If one front is bad you want to replace both sides. Install new hubs with embedded sensors in the bearings, the cost is a tiny bit more parts wise but the labor is a lot less. So you...
