Cool 1997 Ford Ranger XLT Stepside Sport w/ 3.0 - 5 spd, 4x4 140k - in PA

1997 Ford Ranger Stepside.

140k on clock, truck doesn't have AC.

The truck is 4x4 w/ auto switch on the dash & mile marker locking hubs. Factory alloy wheels with relatively new (8 months old)...

I have all the "rail" attachments and really only need the cover. But am willing to purchase whole set-up for right...

Yea, I don't think they are locking in. I found the manual and read it. Probably time for a cleaning or manual locking hubs.

So what I really need to do is be in 1st gear with the clutch in and turn knobs into 4wd in order for it to work properly?

So if the truck was in neutral and running the axle shafts would then be spinning so I wouldn't need forward momentum?

As far as the T-case shift, I don't really know what to look for, but I hear...

I may be a slight bit retarded. Never had a truck with auto locking hubs before. Everytime I had attempted to put truck into 4wd I stopped and turned the truck to 4wd, expecting something...

I hear clicking with my 1997 4wd w/ auto hubs and they don't engage as well...

I have not troubleshot this system yet... just got the truck 3 weeks ago...

what tires did you have on your old ranger? They look nice on it... I'm looking for a set for my stepside and thats the look i'm going for - but also using the truck mainly on the road...

I thought about running snow tires year round... I'm unsure about how they'd hold up however...

Old man has had some good luck with his firestone winterforce uv's... however they have mixed...

I've always went with whats on the sidewall? I don't know much about trucks yet... always been a sports car guy.

I hear guys that say they have 31's and 33's...

Have a 97' Ranger 4wd w/ 15 inch stockers. Currently have mounted the oem Goodyear Wrangler @ 235/75/15 - complete garbage.

Mainly using this truck for commuting back and forth to...
