What is the amperage draw on the pair of lights ?

If low enough, find the parking light wire and hook up the fog lights with a switch.

As the amperage goes higher you have to consider a relay...

- IMHO... doing it CHEAP is not the best way to approach Headlights.

You can buy LED Projectors, are they better than HO Halogen... I'm not sure but things they are a changing.

Not a lot that designated Early Ford Ranger.
You might need to look at some of the instructions for other year or models of the Ranger and measure up your tailgate in basically the same area.

Run a 5.0L-W with an AOD Trans. No one will know if it is 5.0L-W or a 289, all of the parts interchange.

First, when you BUY the adapters get good ones.
If money is not a problem, consider L&L Products, the best Adapter Kit there is; it is the Kit I used for my '88 STX 5.0L Conversion.

Re: Starter sounds like it's hitting the flywheel.

It could be a bad flywheel but more than likely as barneycat11 has said, check the start. Sometime the starter drive get weak and won't fully engage, when it starts to spin it disengages and grinds...
