This/\ minus the beating the crap out of it. Also run the fuel treatment out of it and put fresh 87 octane in. New plugs never hurts either.

Im thinking a circlip or snap ring in the right place would work. Might have to try a few different sizes. Im not sure what the back side of the stud for the knob looks like.

I just went through all this and after weeks of looking for what was wrong I found the vent hose off the back of the fuel tank. just sitting there. I clicked it back into place and all is well again.

Load test your battery. If it checks out pull the fuse for your stereo. I have seen stereos short out more then any other component. There is also a way to test for a short but I can't remember right...

It could be any number of things. Dirty MAF, Bad TPS, Clogged fuel filter or bad pump, Bad coil, You have some testing in your future.

My 99 came with no EGR. The intake where it would go is all plastic with no hole.

Did you soak the lifters or use an oil can to fill them before installing them? A dry lifter is going to have a lot of lash until it's pumped up. I have no idea what the other poster was talking...
