I have a hitch receiver. It says right in the user's manual that the automatic is rated for a maximum trailer weight of about 3800 or 3600 lbs (depending on 4x2 or 4x4).

Yeah the only problem with that is the flanges had spring bolts to allow a little flex. I was told that if it's welded solid at that connection, it could cause another connection to break.
