Yup in Canada we phased out aluminum wiring a looonnnggg time ago, reason being it was starting fires.

Only thing I can think of is there is a break somewhere in the smaller wire, what kind of gauge difference are we talking about? like 14 to 16? Try undoing the section you saudered and hook that up...

I thought the same thing when i compared the driver side to passenger side fender, a Ford tech I know says that they removed that section to keep the motor from overheating, so it'd be best to leave...
