Re: Does the 2.3 DOHC (2002) have an EGR self-test?

Not sure this will be a terribly helpful post, but I do have literally the exact year, engine, and trans of your truck.

I did a clutch job (trans out, batt disconnected, etc) and the P1000 code...

Re: Duratec pinging like crazy...

Wow how time flies. This thread is about 2 years old and it recently came to mind.

All of the things prior did not eliminate the ping and for a solid year I ran premium :( Recently pushing in my...

Re: Getting a manual transmission back in after clutch change...

Whew... nvm, I got it.

i used a touch of wd40 on a rag to wipe the plastic where the slave boot rides back and forth. The idea was to let it slide easier (on many slaves there isn't even a boot...

Re: Getting a manual transmission back in after clutch change...

Thanks for replying. Can you confirm that in fact the throwout bearing makes contact with the pressure plate fingers first? I can't use your bolt trick because unfortunately they aren't long enough...

Getting a manual transmission back in after clutch change...

I've done this job before on other cars without issue, but I'm having trouble with my Ranger.

Whoever owned it before me must have rested their foot on the clutch pedal when they drove as the...

Re: Had Any Compliments On Your Ranger?

Today I came out of my house to find a sticky note on the drivers window of my truck. The note said if I was interested in selling my truck to call X. It was handwritten...

I'm not sure if I...

Re: How much PAG oil to put in replacement AC compressor

WD-40 is a pretty poor lubricant and doesnt last very long. If the fluctuation comes back, I would try a different lubricant. As for what kind, perhaps someone else could recommend one- I wouldnt...

Re: Components and placement

Way late and you may never read this or you may have already acted on your own but:

I have 6.5 components in my truck. I just straight up screwed up the doors :p

After cutting the door hole...

Re: Did my mechanic rip me off bigtime or what?!

The hose with the plastic tee requires at a bare minimum that you remove the cat- the shop manual suggests removing the transmission. The hose is like $50, but who knows what labor was charged for...

Re: biggest battery for 2000 ranger 4cyl?

I have zero other high draw items- my truck is completely stock other than the stereo, headlight harness, and tire size.

I completely understand that heat kills batteries- absolutely. However,...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

Theyre full of it. Never take your vehicle there again. Follow tomw0's advice which is exactly what I would want to see. If the pressures are right, I would be looking at the pressure switches...

Re: biggest battery for 2000 ranger 4cyl?

All the charging crap is why I decided to stay lead-acid when it was time for a battery swap.

I like to listen to music in my truck- often when waiting somewhere, but especially on my days off...

As in, you're going to put a T5 manual in place of the automatic? Not sure what T5 means...

You're lucky- I cant do a 5.0 swap in this area and pass emissions. The 5.0 would be from an 01 at the...

Re: Thee Gherkin build, 5.0

That little truck is going to be a riot! You going to do positrac for the rear or add weight or something? You'll be destroying rear tires left and right with all the wheelspin...

Subbed and will...

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV

Lucky bastid! Congrats on that! You go carb or fuel-injection/explorer ECM and harness? What transmission?

If I ever do a 5.0 swap (cant do it where I live), im going to try and find a way to do...

Re: 2002 ford ranger 3.0 misfire with a p0301 code

Check compression in cylinder 1 and compare it to at least 2 other cylinders. While testing spark is fairly reliable, you cannot guarantee the injector is spraying fuel- it could be clogged. I would...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

I see and fair enough. I too have an intermittent knock, but I think its the IMRC flaps in the intake manifold thats being amplified by the sound bouncing off the pavement beneath the truck. I cant...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

Good links and I'll have to do more reading on this.

I will say in your second link someone mentioned what I think might apply to our trucks at least some of the time: theoretically its true, but...

Re: bad fuel mileage

Heavily depends on driving conditions and A/C use. I can get 31.5mpg on the highway 65mph all day with the A/C off. Ive done this twice on a trip from Texas to Florida. This will drop to 25-26mpg if...

Re: Are Ford Rangers "Throw Away Vehicles"

My Ranger is my daily driver and only 4 wheeled vehicle. To hell with car payments and owing massive amounts- its MINE and it does all the stuff I need.

I think its really a case of what you need...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

Just FYI: when a thermostat is closed, its closed. Whether its a 208 degree thermostat or a 180 degree thermostat, it will warm the engine up at the same rate because the thermostat isnt allowing...

Re: Need some insight into Boiling Coolant hot engine 2003 2.3 4cyl Ford Ranger

+1 on switching to a mechanical thermostat- did that on my 02 and it drives much better than the electric one. I used a 2004 Motorcraft 195 thermostat and wired a 1500ohm 1/2 watt resistor between...

Re: New IAC Valve but inconsistent idle RPMs

FWIW, I really recommend going ahead and picking up a set of gauges and the adapter for refrigerant.

The bottles with the gauges are fine I guess, but it only gives you half the story and isn't...
