I bought my 99 4.0 auto with 52,000 miles and the tranny took a crap at 65,000... Then both heads cracked at 85,000 so some people get lemons and others get good ones.

Probably need a slave cylinder, which is located inside the bell housing between the motor and transmission. Pull the transmission and it will be bolted to the transmission.

thanks bud. my bother came to check out the heads (worked at a machine shop) there BOTH cracked. same place too. the bridge right between the intake and exhaust valves.

Does this look right?!

In the middle of doin head gaskets on my 4.0 ohv and that #3 cylinder had a backfire on the code reader... Is this evidence of a burnt valve?

Thanks for the reply. Had a buddy that is a Ford mechanic take a look and said it infact has a cracked head on the passenger side by the intake manifold. So im about 40% done with tearing it down....

No, i have not pumped oil into the cylinder, i did a dry test. Yes it has to be INTERNAL loss of coolant as there is no evidence of external loss of coolant. I will do another compression test on...
