I think I figured that I bought the wrong sensor, but I think it was labeled as what I needed, just not an oem part. A Motorcraft replacement should do the trick

Good possibility, I've had to do that before after replacing the cruise control, I think I had pinched a connection. Adjusting wheel fixed it, will try with this problem.

I'd say the right side goes out quicker and more often. Left side tends to stay on a little longer, but it always goes out eventually.
