Re: Near stall idle

Yeah, I figured. Is it worthwhile to clean or just replace?

Re: disable A/c WOT control - Vacuum leak

Judt curious: Can't bypass even with a piggyback ecu that's programmed to trick the main ecu into thinking it cut the AC? Or can you "hack" the factory ecu and remove the relevant code?

Near stall idle

97 2.3 5 speed 134k miles.

This evening I started the truck and let it warm up for about 5 minutes. When I went outside to get in and drive away, the truck was in a near stall state. I'd say the...

Re: No heat-coolant flow issue

Did you pressure test the cooling system? How's the radiator cap? Also I assume no timing belt issues where it swings around the water pump?

Re: IAC required?

I cant even imagine an answer to this, but I have to say this is certainly one of the more interesting automotive forums I've been on! :hmmmm:

Re: 2.3 just died and wont start has both fuel and spark

My money is on it being engine timing/timing belt.

Re: Engine Oil Leak

Why would the option be between getting a new engine or replacing the gaskets? It seems to me that spending a weekend replacing three gaskets would be infinitely cheaper and less labor intensive than...

Re: 2.3 just died and wont start has both fuel and spark

What's the condition of the timing belt? Check timing too, in order to see if the be,t skipped some teeth.

Re: Oil Pressure gauge

The gauge on my 97 takes about maybe half a second or so before reading after the engine starts, so taking a moment or two after startup might not be an issue. Did you get a low oil warning light...

Re: collasped radiator hose

Could just be an old hose, but also check your radiator cap and maybe replace it. Also flush the coolant system since you're taking the hoses off anyway. Deposit build up in the system can cause a...

Throttle Body Cleaning

I've heard some cars (mostly Fords) have coatings on the throttle plate and because of that you're not supposed to use any sort of throttle body cleaner on them. My question is can you use a cleaner...

Re: Pre-filter fuel like leak

Ok, so I spent some time working on the truck and here's what I found. First off, as to the oddness of the picture, I actually unhooked the line from the filter, and the filter isn't mounted to the...

Re: Pre-filter fuel like leak

Can I splice in another repair line? Or would it make more sense to try and remove the repaired section thats already there and replace it with a new dorman?

Pre-filter fuel like leak

My ranger details are in my sig, but basically what happened is that my fuel line developed a leak right before the filter. I took a look under the truck, and it looks like there are three fuel lines...

Re: leaking oil

My suggestion would be to wait a little bit before you put in any leak stopper after you clean it up, so you can try to pinpoint where its leaking from. Better off to fix it correctly if you can.

Motorcraft Fully Synthetic MT Fluid

I hate to start yet ANOTHER thread about tranny fluids, but I have a specific question about a Motorcraft product. So motorcraft doesn't make Dextron III/Mercon anymore, but browsing their website, I...

Re: hard to get in gear sometimes

There's already been a post about this "problem." Its a couple of pages back, so you can search for it.

The gist of it was that this is common and its just a thing with the 5 speeds. My 2.3 does...

Re: heater control valves

Try to position a bucket to collect the coolant. I believe there is a crossmember down there that you can balance the bucket up while you change out the valve. Like was said above, its a simple...

Re: Foreign engine

The ranger/bseries are co-developed by Mazda and Ford, but the rangers in the US were built here. The "Lima" engine was built in...surprise, Lima, Ohio!

Re: help?

I wonder if your fuel pump was on its way out originally? If you were running lean, that'd make the engine run hot, no? Especially if you didn't this enough coolant in there.

Like was said above,...

Re: help, what is this part?

It's called the heater control valve. Around $15 on rockauto. When you replace it, put a bucket under the area because you'll spill coolant in process.

Also make sure you get the 4 port valve...

Re: Oil...

I put motor raft 5w-30 in my 2.3 - does your owners manual say only 5w-30?

If you're concerned about it take it back and tell them to change the oil or better yet, do it yourself!

As for the...
