Re: 3.0 to 4.0 swap...doable?

In that year I'd go straight for the 302. A lot more information out there describing the wiring differences etc. Plus the SOHC 4.0 from those years is pretty notorious for timing issues that require...

Re: Weird 4x4 issue.

Sounds like the motor may be weak spinning with no load is easy apply the load of moving the tease linkage and it's not strong enough. New parts can be bad. Especially now a days with Chinese made...

Re: Slow synchronizer?

Not if your confident it's good but with hard to shift in all gears it seems like a clutch issue. Like it's not completely releasing. But there's actually a good YouTube video if you google around...

Re: Slow synchronizer?

Did you get it bled well? It took forever to get all the air out of mine and it had a synchro nibble till I got it sorted out. The over the frame section loves to trap air. I ran probably 15-20...

Re: Slow synchronizer?

What's the mileage? Could be a worn clutch or low trans fluid or worn clutch hydraulics all fairly common issues on rangers.

Re: 99 Ranger engine oil in transmission case?

Possible someone put oil in there but trans fluid will get pretty nasty when burnt. Trans fluid cools through the radiator and is obviously bolted to the engine so there is some heat transfer. It's...

Re: Can my 2.9l v6 pull a full sized 9" and D44?

It will add some weight but with proper gearing for your trans ratios/tire size should be doable. Only issie would be axle width the f150 is a fair amount wider than the ranger which will cause some...

Re: 2010 Ford Ranger Sport 4.0L, Ignition Coil Fuse keeps blowing

It's possible anything in the circuit could be the culprit burned boots arcing on manifolds or the block. Something is back feeding the wires and overloading them. I'd also try running it in the dark...

Re: 2010 Ford Ranger Sport 4.0L, Ignition Coil Fuse keeps blowing

If it's popping fuses most likely a short or issue in the wiring to the coil. Probably chaffed and arcing on something popping the fuse. I would take a look at the connection and try to trace the...

Re: Another squeaky belt.

Tensioners are also pretty bad on these trucks. Mine died at 80k miles. Followed closely by the cam sync which makes the same noise oddly enough. If the belt is walking it may not have enough...

Re: Strange Manual Transmission Problem

Correct that method helps but it's not sure fire. I swapped mine from auto so I basically started from scratch. I probably bled a whole bottle of fluid through before it released fully. It could be...

Re: Strange Manual Transmission Problem

Can you watch the slave cylinder move? The rangers are notoriously difficult to bleed at times. You have a check valve in the end of the master cylinder lines. So when you bench bleed it it's fine...

This is all you need. They sell them as a kit. Anywhere from $12-$30 depending on brand.

Re: Manual transmission - flush first?

Yep as stated here. No harm in changing fluids early within reason I usually shoot for the 50-60k mile mark that seems like a reasonable mileage. The book mileages are there because that's how long...

Re: 98 auto switch to manual

I'm not really sure. They did the facelift in 01 which was primarily cosmetic. So I would have to see a wiring diagram to be sure. Are you dead set on keeping 4x4? Only reason I ask is I paid $500...

Re: 98 auto switch to manual

A lot of times Ford does not completely wire the whole circuit. Like mine had the pigtail for the fog lights but the fuse location in the box had no terminals. Same goes for the 4x4. It may have the...

Re: Rear Window leak, Incorectly sealed?

Well it may but the window is bolted in and it basically crushes the sealant so sometimes it squishes out at weird angles. That's what makes it hard to really be sure by just looking

Re: Rear Window leak, Incorectly sealed?

If it's leaking it most likely is the seal or the high mount light gasket. Two most common leaks on these trucks. You can get a box of window sealant from most parts stores for fairly cheap. It's...

Do you know the year? I believe there were Two different ones earlier was around 25lb later was 20lb. But being a Mazda motor the were originally measured in CCs so there is some conversion error.

Re: Bad Syncros?

Yeah if it's a stocker depending on usage it's getting up there. Especially if you had weak hydraulics they can accelerate wear.

Re: Bad Syncros?

Yeah check for leaks and make sure your reservoir is full and if the hydraulics look good id lean towards a clutch. How many miles on it?

Re: Bad Syncros?

This as well could be worn slave. Or master cylinder. You can pull the inspection cover and check for leaks inside the belhousing. But if you go through the trouble to pull trans for a slave might...

Re: 98 auto switch to manual

My stock auto PCM was tuned to ignore the auto trans inputs by Fred at rogue. Ran the auto PCM up until I sold it and as far as I know it's still running that way. Shafts are different from 2wd to...

Re: Bad Syncros?

If it's all gears and they all started at the same time my bet is clutch. The stock clutches are self adjusting meaning they take up the slack from a worn disk on their own. Usual symptoms are hard...

Re: 98 steering column into a 2000

Congrats on the swap I did one a few years back. I just swapped the shroud and left the shift tube in place. Just unbolted the part that protrudes I also didn't want the push button key release so...
