Re: 1998 won't start

It was pointed out to me that the yellow wire on the starter looked wrong and that Ford typically uses a red/lt blue wire there. I went out to the junkyard looking for an underhood loom to pull and...

Re: 1998 won't start

Thanks. I'll look into it.

Someone spotted a wrong colored wire on the starter. If it is wrong, it was a very professional job, unlike the rest of the things I've fixed. I'm looking for my 2000...

Re: 1998 won't start

So my options are (assuming this applies to the 2.5L manual):
1) Failed starter motor
2) Failed neutral safety switch
3) Failed ignition switch
4) Locked up engine

1) Looks new, and it's...

Re: 1998 won't start

Well, that was a dead end. I started pulling that harness out and found a Ford tag on it. I'm stumped on this truck. Might just look for a truck with a blown motor, swap in this one and scrap the...

Re: Switch panel build

That's awesome! I wish I took more advantage of my university's resources when I was in school. We didn't have a CAM plasma cutter or CNC, but the old school shop guys were pretty good at what they...

Re: 1998 won't start

So I listed the truck for sale just to get it out of my hair. Then I remembered to take a peek at the negative terminal at the motor mount. I looked above and below and didn't see it. Walked away....

Re: 1998 won't start

Yup. It was the 12v power source. I feel like an idiot for not remembering that.

I finally got a chance to dig around on the truck after a week of family emergencies. Other than losing my 7mm...

Re: 1998 won't start

I wasn't entirely convinced the click sound I've been hearing is coming from the engine bay, so I started digging into the interior this afternoon. I started with the radio bezel, which was just...

Re: 1998 won't start

It's been a while since I could work on the truck. Life stuff. I think I'm a smidge closer to getting it solved...

I wasn't sure about the clutch safety switch and wanted to rule it out, so I...

Re: 1998 won't start

I got a reply in a PM. Moving it here in case it's helpful to someone else finds something useful.

Yes, I understand that. At the time I did not know that wire was tampered with.

Right. ...

Re: 1998 won't start

The switch could be malfunctioning. I know I put it all back together properly (had another one to look at), but something seemed off about it. It's only a $40 part if that's the problem.

I was...

1998 won't start

I picked up a salvage title 1998 (in signature) mostly for parts. I'd like to get it running now. PO didn't speak much English, but was going to sell it to family in Guatemala or something. They...

Re: Dual plug myth.

I have a feeling these myths would go away if everyone here bought an EVTM and learned how to read wiring diagrams.

Re: Did the dual igition plug mod

I'll hold further comments until dyno results are posted. Even the intake filter/tube manufacturers state that further modifications need to be made to the ENTIRE SYSTEM before gains are made.

Re: Did the dual igition plug mod

If I had the money I'd buy a few of these trucks, do all these mods and have them dyno'ed after each mod just to shut everyone up. Nobody has real data on any of this, and going by fuel mileage is...

Re: Volo head swap?

Quantify "good power". You can get 300+hp (http://turborangerforums.com/showthread.php?t=20) without the Volvo head. Also, you get to keep a non-interference motor that way. Not so with the Volvo...

Re: 2001 2.5L fun

Those are possibilities. I doubt a little oil during a compression test wouldn't be enough to stop air from leaking through. I'll pull it apart and see what it really is soon. Didn't see any more...

Re: 2001 2.5L fun

Haven't gotten anywhere with the truck lately. I was really just hoping it would sell. (Been for sale for a while.) Last week I had resolved to just go hunt for a junkyard motor and transmission to...

Re: i want to clean my throttle body but...

I haven't done one of those throttle cables in a while, but there should be a retainer clip of sorts. Then it should pop off.

The vacuum hose on the TB/valve cover does just pull off. For some...

Re: 2001 2.5L fun

Finally got a minute to slap some JB Weld in the crack on the cat as well. I'll see how that works. I think I'll be keeping the truck at this point. If I get everything else sorted on it, I may...

Re: 2001 2.5L fun

Did a compression test:
#1 - 195
#2 - 200
#3 - 185
#4 - 105

Added some oil to #4 and it stayed at 105.

From what I've read, that means the bottom end is okay. Again, there's no oil/coolant...

Re: Bed in a bed!

Do you have a charging system for the second battery? Maybe you can find a cheap solar panel to mount on the top of the camper shell. I personally would get a battery box and find somewhere under...

seat back spring "rebuild"

Pulled the interior out of the 2001 because it needed to be cleaned, badly. In the process I discovered that BOTH of the driver seatback springs had snapped. I had an extra seatback (also broken)...
